Americas Fear Of Speedos

Because 65% of Americans are overweight including the 42% who are obese.

I wear speedos when I lap but bow to convention at US beaches and wear trunks. Then again I am 58.

Last year I was in Rio for Carnival and wore speedos at the beach. That's the convention there. When in Rio...

I wear them all summer long. I'm in decent shape, not super lean or muscular. I where them around family and don't even think twice about it. It's a swimsuit. I hate wearing big, baggy board shorts that stay wet forever. Once you get past the first few time wearing one and feeling more exposed than you're used to, they are great!

There was a time when it was acceptable to choose between swim shorts, form-fitting trunks or Speedos, or even thongs. Now it's 95 per cent fucking awful knee-length board shorts which have little practical sense, but do make some kind of cultural statement in communicating the fear that North American males have of letting the world know they possess a cock

I'm not huge but they just would not cover my embarrassment :)

American swimware trends are slowly going back to "speedos" - probably not briefs but form fitting (to various degrees) trunks was the style from the 1940's to 1970's - the 90s was the dark ages no doubt.. a lot of people may not look good in a speedo, but no one looks good in board shorts. The 2000's was the time of the low rise shorts that emphasized the V line. The 2010's have been the era of the short hem line.

I got married in December and our honeymoon was in the Caribbean. I needed new swimwear, but that time of year the only thing available were Speedos. So I bought a pair. I enjoyed them but they don't hide much

2 years ago the ocean was unusually warm. I decided to go to a different beach a few miles up the road and wear my red Sporti swim brief in the ocean. The beach is primarily a beach for tourists, so it would be very unlikely that I would see someone from my neighborhood. After a few times, it became the norm for me and I had no problem. I generally don't like tight underwear or swimsuits, but in the waves of the ocean, a swim brief is better than too much clothing on my lower half. Because of the warm ocean, I hung out in the surf for hours. I bought several other swim briefs. I like the green, medium blue, red, and the navy with gold stripes the best. The white one is very revealing when wet, so I don't wear it to the beach.

I always wore one as a kid because that’s what I was given. My mother is first gen Greek American. Switched to shorts when I had a say. I don’t really want the attention of being the only guy in WV wearing one. I am also a shower and am self conscious of being accused of trying to parade my junk
