Congrats to Mrs. Barrett.
*I hope the White House didn't make her confirmation ceremomy yet another super spreader event. *:mask:

Amy Coney Barrett confirmed to US Supreme Court

"President Trump, just returned from campaigning in Pennsylvania, will preside over Justice Barrett's swearing-in ceremony at the White House later on Monday evening...The event will take place on the south lawn of the executive mansion, a month after a similar event to unveil Justice Barrett as the president's nominee was linked to a Covid-19 outbreak that was followed by the president himself testing positive for the disease."

As she gave birth to only five children I find it interesting that no one asked her if she used birth control.

No one asked her if she had an abortion.

No one asked her if she's pro-death penalty.

No one asked if she thought her daughters should be arrested, booked, charged and prosecuted for murder if they had/have an abortion. And if convicted subject to the death penalty.

No one asked her the personal questions required to expose her hypocrisy.

However, she was asked for an NDA, an oath of allegiance and loyalty, and unquestioned subservience in her role as handmaiden to serve only the needs of her benefactor.

None of those would be at all appropriate questions, and she would be fully entitled to indignantly object to their being asked. The reason they were not asked is because no one on the committee would be silly enough to ask such questions.

MY point. Nor should she presume to think it appropriate to interfere in the privacy of other women when she's on the bench.

This is precisely why such questions should have been asked.

I didn't say they were inappropriate because they were private matters (they actually aren't all).

They (with the possible exception of the "pro death penalty" question) are inappropriate because they are not enquiring either of her professional qualifications, her history with legal cases, or of how she would see herself approaching decision making as a justice of the Supreme Court. Those are the only sorts of questions that should be asked in a SCOTUS confirmation hearing.

So soon women will now have two choices: death in a botched back-ally abortion or death by complication brought on by not having access to medical care with no insurance should they decide to go through with the pregnancy.

Win for the Republican theocrats. The rest of us who believe in America, not so much.

I read some time ago that the conservatives goal is not to outlaw abortion on a federal level, but to turn the issue back to each of the individual states.

However, with a 5-4 majority with Chief Justice Roberts voting with the liberals the conservatives may jump off into outlawing abortion any where in the US.

The Republican Party is setting the stage for a huge uprising by the people, The US could find itself in a civil war and we find ourselves economically to become a very poor nation. A civil war would send the US from first place to the bottom of the Western World.

However, there is a chance that instead of a civil war, the Republican Party will find away to rule from henceforth by doing away with fair elections.

Turns out my sister-in-law belongs to the same Catholic cult as Barrett does! Completely brainwashed and out to lunch not in a good way. F...ing scary that someone with those beliefs can get a seat on the SCOTUS.

If the Democrats can win this election and take control of the Senate as well, they are going to need to suck it up and do some legislating and not worry about who might be offended. Do the right thing and the voters will follow.
For starters
  1. Legalize abortions through an act of Congress.
  2. Expand the Supreme Court to 13 Justices and Moscow Mitch can choke on it.
  3. Reverse the Citizens United decision and institute electoral reform. Get the money out politics.
  4. Reinstate the rules for filibuster they way they use to be, or abolish it altogether.
  5. Start the process of amending the constitution to do away with the Electoral College.
  6. Finish Obamacare. It was an incomplete, expensive mess and the Reps have only made it worse. Biden's public option is a start, but you need to go single payer. The insurance and phama industries will survive.

Mitch mcconnell makes me want to puke, the hypocrites are all fucked in the head and I have no hope for the future of humanity.

2020 did it. I had a sliver of hope left, it's burnt and the ashes pissed on.

My species kinda fucking sucks.

I understand where you are. I refuse to give in to the likes of Trump. Trump will be defeated at some point in time.. Trump's place as a villain has been secured. His great great grandchildren will not want to claim kin.

I refuse to give up my optimism. I will never give in to Trump and his supporters.

I understand you are hurting. It pisses me off that we have this new "not qualified" justice on the court. We have to hope that Roberts plus one more will grow a pair and vote for what they know is right and not rubberstamp Trump's plan to develop a Trump dictatorship.

I'm never going to stop standing up for what is right, but I no longer feel like it matters.

My optimism basically never existed, it was a very dim light on a cold, dark lonely road. This year and everything that led up to it blew that flicker out... But while I'm still breathing I'll continue wasting my time fighting for what's right.

What else am I gonna do, yunno?

I see. So you think it's not worth knowing what personal prejudices a judicial nominee might bring to the bench. Got it.
