Some of my limited observations:
I have dated 3 women in the past who are definitely bisexual, as compared to the others I have been intimate with who were occasional tourists or kept it to fantasies. These women predominantly dated men for most of their lives or were married with a man, but had an unabashed attraction to various women. They realized this early in life at the beginning of their sexual experiences and never tried to avoid it or discount it.
Their desire for other women seemed to get realized through affairs of short duration, often one nighters. Some found it difficult befriending lesbians. There is supposedly a large community of lesbians in Toronto who dislike bisexual women and won't generally socialize with them.
"M" tried living as a lesbian for a time in her 20's but concluded it was not really her preference. Sadly, has a history of childhood sexual abuse, incest. She once had a cheating live in boyfriend she loved very much, and ended up "cuckolding" him by taking his girlfriend away from him and fucking her herself. She's what I'd term a strong personality. Married the guy. She still has flings with women.
"C" has had many short term relationships (over 100) throughout her life mostly with men. She is quite dominant in these F/F relationships and seeks the lipstick lesbian types or other pretty bisexuals. She is in it primarily for sex, but needs to connect intellectually with someone and be able to have a conversation and dinner as well. Her first lover was at 14 in summer camp and she expects to always find connections with women throughout her life. She can't see herself living with a female lover. Or any lover, come to think of it. She is submissive with men, has few limits, and enjoys bondage and S&M play. She introduced me to her gay male porn, which was a part of her porn viewing habits. Better looking men, I'd have to agree. She was quite interested in getting a submissive woman for a threesome with me, where she would be a dom directing the newcomer. Last I heard she was deeply into an B&D lifestyle, but not successful finding a stable relationship. Highly intelligent, but very easily bored.
"E" had a "poly-amorous" arrangement with her boyfriend and they agreeably fucked other people. She enjoyed (and was disappointed by) women as much as men. She had artistic pretensions and loved creating dramatic situations. I suspected that the role she was playing was supposed to impress me, as though she was living the life of Anaiis Nin. She was the black sheep of her family, and it was eventually related to me that she had been sexually abused as a child by her elder brother.
These women's experiences predate the recent trend of female bisexuality that seems to have become popular over the past five years. I don't see them any more so I don't know how they are doing now.
Probably 90% of the women I've known intimately had sexual attractions to other women and perhaps one half acted on it, generally during their teens or twenties. For most it was a one time experience.
