Hi guys,

It's 3 AM and im asking a very embarrassing question.

Anyway, I have done anal before and I quite like it. I want to continue bottoming a bit more but somehow I always get anal fissures (with the occasional hemorrhoid) It's so annoying!

I eat plenty of fiber, I try not to strain while using the restroom. I don't wipe vigorously. I don't know how I keep getting them. Is it squats? Not sure. Regardless, it's such a buzzkill when a hot guy wants to hook up but I cant because my asshole looks like a cutting board. Not only that, it gets painful. I wipe and theres blood on the paper.

Does anybody else have this problem? If so, what can I do to reduce my chances of getting anal fissures?

P.S. I get them even when I haven't bottomed, so its not like I'm getting them from sex

Those aren't fissures. Sounds like hemorrhoids, but it could also be something else that is causing the bleeding, like a recurring or chronic STI or something else. Go to a clinic. Yes, it may be a bit embarrassing (for you) at first, but they are trained professionals and have seen many, many butts in their day.

Go to a clinic. It is the only way to be sure.

+1 on seeing your doctor. I had problems with a fissure that I tried dealing with myself but it persisted for months. When I finally saw a doctor, he said "man, you should have come in sooner, this is super easy..." and we were able to develop a treatment strategy that resolved it in a couple of weeks. I felt stupid for having wasted so much time.

Your hardest task may well be getting over any hesitance you have in talking to your healthcare provider. Your doctor will not give you any judgment or attitude. And if you find that they do, you need a new doctor. Your profile says you're in LA... that town is full of LGBT and sex-positive healthcare providers... you should have no problem finding someone very laid-back and cool about this.

In many cases, a combination of ointments and care when using the bathroom can help. In rare cases you may have a hemorrhoid or more serious fissure that might require a tiny in-office procedure to fix it so that it can heal properly. But the only one that can know what needs to happen is your doctor. So don't waste time, get yourself an appointment as soon as you can!

The crowd is roaring for the spot-on advice from everyone in here. Instead of pretending to be doctors, they have given the very best advice.... go see a medical professional! And the part about being embarrassed..... one of the best health decisions I made was seeking out a gay doc with whom I felt comfortable asking and answering any question about my life that relates to my personal health.

Even being in the field, my advice is to always see your PCP. If you can’t talk to your provider about any topic, find a new one. Period. You will not shock him/her with anything you say. There’s no reason to be embarrassed.

There’s a great thread in here somewhere on this topic. I wish I could provide the link.

first of all, I would t worry asking embarrassing questions, were a community and that’s what we’re here for.

from what I know about the issue, bearing in mind I’m not medical professional, is that unfortunately some people are just predisposed to developing them and there’s not a great deal more that can be done other than what you’re already doing.

that part of your body was ‘designed’ to do one thing and now you’ve introduced something else potentially has made your problem worse.

unfortunately you’ll have to consider not bottoming at all or face the consequences of it.
