I tend to go with Christopher Hitchen's perspective in how he treated the passing of Jerry Falwell and Mother Teresa...
Namely, that he was not going to cash in his justified and historically correct opinion on the evil influence of a person, simply because that person did us all the immense favor of shuffling off this mortal coil.
If his wife and children loved him... then he did them right and left them comfortable enough to do without him.
As for the rest of the world...
.... no liberal nor independent will miss him, because his absence will raise the level of intelligence and truthfulness in our political discourse by just that little bit.
...and the conservatives won't miss him because they have no shortage of racist, ignorant, loudmouthed pricks to take his place.
The sad truth is that the epiphany that Breitbart claimed to have that "turned him" conservative was probably not a crisis of conscience, but simply the realization that there was a lot more money to be made by pandering to people's hatreds and fears than by appealing to reason and compassion.
The same cynical choice made by FOX News and most Republican politicians...
