Annoying things about Craigslist ads/people

So this past year I've been checking out the CL personals since I've been interested in meeting up with discreet HUNG buddies to j/o, watch some porn etc. I've had 4/4 great encouters, but that is after lots and lots of screening. I post maybe twice a month and check every few days or so. Its fun, but exhausting at the same time.

The good:
- CL, at least in Toronto, has lots of new posts every day it seems (at least in the m4m sections as I see)

The bad:
- Sometimes the SAME people post the EXACT same thing every day, and worse they will post (essentially) the same ad EVERY HOUR sometimes!
- Guys who post ads with very SHORT descriptions. Like the whole post will be "I want to fuck a bottom tonight". I can't imagine anyone responding to that, but maybe its just me.

The SUPER ANNOYING (to me anyways):
- People who ask for pics in their ad but don't even put one up themselves (or they put up a random porn or 'dummy pic').
- People who say they don't have pics! Come'on guys its 2010 don't lie to everyone! Fine I get it if you don't want to send out a face pic. Fine. But it takes 2 seconds to snap a pic of your bod on your phone and send it.
- When you ask for stats, they give you something random like their height and nothing else. OK when my ad says "looking for a HUNG guy" uh dontcha think you should tell me how big you are... Similar: when you directly ask "how big are you" you get something like "fairly hung". Which I now know to mean 6 inches or less.
- People who don't really read the ad. Example: I'll say in my ad "not looking for oral, fucking etc." and the first email I get is "I wanna suck you", "I want you to fuck me" you get the idea.

I'm sure I got a lot more. Lemme think...

The thing about CL that I've found is that it's not really about connecting up, it's really about the FANTASY of connecting up. Posters stroke off at the prospect of meeting up with someone for a good time but when it comes time to shit or get off the pot, REALITY strikes, they sober up and they lose their nerve.

As for the pics or lack thereof, it's part of the fantasy. You can't have a fantasy going on when you're staring at the reality of someone's pic (assuming it's a true pic). For example, if you send me a pic and you don't measure up to my initial pre-picture fantasy, then YOU have burst my bubble with your pic. And if I send you a pic of me and I never hear from you again, the again it's YOU that burst my bubble....and since it's all about NOT BURSTING MY BUBBLE WITH REALITY, I'm going to be reluctant to be truthful with you. So while you're off somewhere waiting for me to show up, I've already shot my load and gone to bed.

Then there are those guys that either send you a pic or show up in person and somewhere in the conversation they ask the buzz killing question "Do you think I'm good looking". JEESH. If you have to ask that of a complete stranger, then me thinks you need to get some therapy to get over your insecurities and you should turn around and go home RIGHT NOW. Been there, experienced that.

If you were to ask me what I think the root cause is.....we're all looking for Mr (or Ms) RIGHT to have an emotional connection (perhaps a better word is "relationship") with and most everyone in some way or another never quite measure up to our own internalized criteria so we're ALWAYS disappointed.

These days I prefer to meet people in person (as in wholly unrelated to the net) so that I (and they) don't have time to generate my (or their) own fantasy and thus be included in the list of ones who are disappointed. One of these days I may post my own face pic but in the meantime, I'm not going to waste anyone's time.

Really well said man. I think the part about the fantasy rings true for a lot people. Its just too bad, because its suppose to be about meeting up.

Of couse we all prefer to meet people in person though. I'd never look to CL for a relationship, and I'm honestly not looking for mr.right on there. As stated in the ads I usually post, I'm looking to wank off with guys with big cocks. Its hard to do that in person, like if you meet someone at a party or bar or something. What do you say in that situation? "I like j/o with guys randomly... so what are you packing?" I mean come on, not realistic, and thats what should be for (I think).

Oh and you reminded of another annoyance. So when I email and send a pic, I do it with the notion that that dude might not respond. Personally, I try and always respond with a simple one liner "sorry man, not interested. peace" which I think people appreciate. When I get no response, I get the hint. But sometimes when I don't respond to someone after we've already sent 1 or 2 emails, they start harassing you with emails: "uhh hello, so are we on or what" type of thing and they get all prissy and bitchy. Like fucking relax dude, what do you expect.

Oh and even better. Sometimes when I say "not interested" they hit me back with a "why not?". Uuuummmmmm because YOU'RE A FUCKING HIDEOUS TROLL in case you hadn't noticed

Oh there is some funky ass stuff on there sometimes. My Craigslist pet peeve is when you post a Missed Connection and some random guy emails saying something like, "oh, sounds hot, where were you?" or "you hang out there a lot" or something....They're OBVIOUSLY not the intended audience and they respond....isn't that why there's the other section for solicitation ads?

I love reading the Missed Connections b/c they are so stupid and the chance of the person catching the post has got to be 1 in a millon. Esp when you post super vague thinks like (this is a real one):

The missed connections and the short, no-pic ads are pretty good. I personally like it when someone says that their pictures are too big to send through craigslist and can only send pics if you respond with more pics. It's such a joke sometimes.

I've also had a guy who's email address is "New2Guys" respond to a few of mine. He's been new to guys for three years...

I think is depends what city you're in. Obviously the big cities will have way more reponses, so even if 95%of them are bullshit I might hear back from some decent guys in TO.

I've always thought of craig's (and other sites) as an online bar. You go in expecting something you want, may have found it and then aren't satisfied with what you get (and vice versa).

I do admit to posting on there but usually when I'm bored or really need to give head. Actually, I do post a pic of me sucking and I always ask for a pic in return. I always specify what I'm looking for (i.e. I love tall men over 6'3 and I get a response I'm 5'8) and I would like a regular thing (like once/twice a week). They always say they're looking for a regular and never show or you meet once and that's it for your "regular thing."

Hmmmm... I post stuff to Craigslist sometimes (in the same city as you) when I'm feeling bored. I posted one personal (for a date, not for a NSA fuck) and I got some responses from real people and one actual date (with which I had no chemistry whatsoever). But mostly when I post I'm just really bored and it's more for me to be entertained by the responses.

I also posted a few in the casual encounters, not for NSA action (not sure if I'm up for that), but just for picture swap and chat and the responses were like 85% spam, 10% men (yes guys respond even if you're saying you looking for women), 5% women. Actually once I accidentally posted in the m4m section and once I didn't list anything in particular (tho I said women in the actual ad). Both those times I've gotten crap loads of responses from guys. I was really confused why so many guys were answering my ad when I accidentally posted in the m4m section.

I gotta say, it really would be much easier if I were gay to get laid all the time.

I have had a few attractive women email me. Of course I'm not 100% sure they're not some hideous troll or man faking it, but I'm pretty sure they're not considering the types of pictures they sent and two of them asked me if I wanted to have phone sex or sext them.

But most assuredly a great majority of responses you get are spam. The last one I did I think I got 10 responses. 8 (or more) were spam, 1 was from a guy asking if I had any luck and if I wanted to find a chick to dp, and 1 was from a girl I thought might be phony, but turned out to not be.
