Another species I discovered is the keep-my-swim-trunks-on-at-all-times:

Their routine:

  1. Arrive at gym in knee-length swim trunks.
  2. Work out (or not).
  3. Remove shirt in lockerroom.
  4. Hang out in sauna, whirlpool for an hour (or more).
  5. Return to lockerroom.
  6. Pretend to dry off soaking-wet swim trunks with towel.
  7. Leave gym in still-soaking-wet trunks.

This was my experience the other day (originally posted under Groups):

After swimming, I'm in the communal shower doing my thing and these 2 younger guys with smokin' bods come in (washboard abs, great physiques, etc). You would think that with bods like that, they would want to show them off. They used the shower towers like me even though there are stalls available. One of the guys showered with soap and shampoo with his swimsuit on even though there were stalls with curtains available, but at the end of his shower he strips off his swimsuit to towel off. Huh???? The other guy who was sharing the tower with me stayed in his swimsuit for at least 30 mins in the shower and walked back to his locker with his swimsuit on. I was in and out of the shower because I was using the sauna. He strikes up a conversation with me in the shower which is cool, but I'm thinking "drop the swimsuit man, you look like a complete tool". No, he kept it on the whole time even though I was completely naked and so were other guys going in and out of the shower and again there were stalls available for the modest guys. Another guy comes into the shower with his swimsuit on from the pool and proceeds to shower with it on using the tower rather than a stall. When I entered the sauna, he was in there with his swimsuit on. He comes out of the sauna and finished showering in his swimsuit. Just like the first guy, he takes off his swimsuit after he finishes showering (????) to towel off. He then proceeds out of the shower area walking towards his locker with his towel and swimsuit in hand completely naked. Nudity in the shower = forbidden, but nudity sauntering around the locker room = OK.

I just can't believe the incredibly bizzare shit I see in the shower nowadays. The younger generation is so freakin' weird!

<sigh> It's really disappointing to see how men are nowadays. I have image issues of getting to the gym and starting my work out there, which I hopefully will overcome, but if I were to actually arrive at the gym I don't understand why people would need to conceal themselves in a locker room. A locker room is where people change, get naked, and shower. I'm not endowed but I wouldn't be afraid to be naked. I used to be so shy of taking my gym shorts off and showing my underwear (yes, underwear...) when I was in high school but now that I look back, it was pointless and unneeded stress. Now, I am sick of it.

Why should men in their 50's be more proud than men in their 20's? Shouldn't it be the other way around due to youthfulness (no offense to mature men). People should embrace their bodies because their bodies will be with them for the rest of their lives. You cannot replace or alter your body without knowing you had surgery in the operating table. Overall, this problem has to do with self-image and homophobia.

If you can get your butt off your chair, drive to the gym, get a membership, deal with the people inside, I cannot find a reason to not man up and just shower/change then get out. Where have all the men gone, myself included?

This was my experience the other day (originally posted under Groups):

Before I went swimming today I was showering off naked and there was this guy in the shower at the same time. I've seen some wierd behaviour in the showers before, but this takes the cake. The guy goes into a stall and pulls the curtain shut. As he's doing this he saw me coming into the shower naked. He then moves to another stall, but this time with the curtain open. About 30 seconds later he comes out of the stall naked and turns on the shower tower to rinse off for about 15 seconds. He then runs back into his stall to finish rinsing off with the curtain open. After he finished, he comes out of his stall wrapped tightly in a towel. I'm looking at this guy completely perplexed. It was like he was having fits between modesty and exhibitionism within a 5 minute shower. :rolleyes2:

The younger generation is such a mess today. He was drawing more attention to himself by engaging in this bizzare behaviour than if he just used the communal shower in the neud like everyone else.

My 'classic' example to this is a younger gentleman at my gym (early 20s), an amazing body (6 pack). he does a hard work out, comes in, showers (staying tight/covered),then slides his boxers UNDER his towel to put on, then takes the towel off, and has to then pull the boxers DOWN to cover his cock head back up (he is that well endowed), then he puts on very nice/expensive clothes that covers, and to my mind, completely obscures any hint of hint of the amazing physique he obviously works very hard to create and mantain.

Ah..youth....?

That's the result of all that American sexual guilt and reprsssion us guys are fed thru the guise of religion, so we are made to feel ashamed and guilty about the fact we have a cock between our legs or sexual urges of any kind. Guys who are walking around stripped down are the ones who have brokent hrough that barrier and are comfortable with their bodies and their sexual orientation, whatever it may be.

Yup, i have noticed older men at the gym are more comfortable being naked. I also run on a track that's open to the public and notice the not-so-posh crowd a lot more comfortable as well regardless of age.

Where I go to the gym, there seems to be a rule in the lockerroom. if you are ugly, gross, fat or old, you stay naked for hours and camp out like it is your livingroom. If you are hot, young, and attractive, you jump in and out of the lockerroom like it is radioactive and somehow your towel/suit is made of lead. I wonder if the former is a cause of the latter? Would guys 18-30 feel better about nudity if they weren't surrounded by gawking, full time locker lounge lizards?

GOOD ONE!

Yes and no. I don't care for the "locker lounge lizards" either and at times I have covered up when they are around because they creep me out. However, when I swim at my uni where it's predominately younger guys (students), they still do the same and exercise extreme modesty. I'm older now, but I get asked if I'm a "grad student" all of the time - in fact I was asked that again the other day by the guy in the swimsuit who started talking to me when I was showering. I look very young for my age - I'm 41, but I have a better physique than some of the guys at the uni who are half my age and I also get a lot of glances from guys half my age when I'm showering. There are a few of the older profs in there sometimes, but they are few and far between.

I still think it's a problem of the younger male generation being taught to be ashamed of having a penis. I've seen guys walk a few feet from the towel hook to the shower stall with their hand over their penis. Gyms have been reinforcing this belief by bringing in shower stalls with curtains. It adds to the belief among younger males that their own nudity is shameful and must be hidden. I've said before in many posts that in my day you HAD TO shower in the open. Gyms wouldn't indulge that kind of modesty, and you would have looked like a fool asking for it. You just got over it and showered with other men or you smelled like a horse all day and showered at home.

I was in the sauna showers, I was naked and I left the curtains open. An old guy came in and used the washing bowls beside the showers, and closed curtains from the outside!

And yet, pissing in public (outside) is OK somehow. Not that I'm complaining because I love to look at dick, but I don't get why naked in a lockerroom is bad, but your dick out on a street or in a parking lot behind the bar is OK, even in front of women.

Can anyone explain that contradiction?

well I live in redlands california, and the showers in my gym are all open and most including myself are nude in the locker room and sauna. i have only noticed younger guys covering up more. but they like to look. i did catch several younger guys (late teens early 20's) looking at my crotch and checking me out in the sauna/showering. I really dont care. I have been very comfortable in my own skin for quite some time. Im the type of guy if you wanna look, i will let you look... as far as communal nudity i think its good, I can tell all the nude guys are more comfortable than the covered up guys. thats what I have noticed. am I right?

Yes, you are 100% right. I'm very comfortable in my own skin too, and if anyone wants to take a peak, I'm cool with it. Guys are curious, competitive and want to compare by nature. If a guy looks at me when I'm nude, I chalk it up to him comparing and I'm flattered. I don't think to myself "OMG, he wants to suck my dick". It's when guys stop looking at me that I'll worry. It means that I'm in sorry ass shape and need to workout harder!

Just a follow up to this. Today I'm working out and I notice this guy in his early 20s watching me out of the corner of his eye while I'm working out. He was very good looking with a nice physique. I didn't pay too much attention to it. Later I'm in the sauna sitting on my towel nude and he comes in. As he comes in he says "hey" to me, so I respond with a "hi" back. He's wrapped up in his towel. He sits down beside me less than half a foot away. I got up without my towel to rinse off with a cold shower and then returned to the steamroom. When the 2 other guys left the steamroom, he started talking to me. I turn my head to the left where he was sitting and he was totally staring at my dick. I continue the conversation and then he looks up and makes eye contact with me. I was completely flattered. Here's a hot guy half my age with a great body checking me out quite blatantly. It was a real ego boost for me. When he got up to leave, he pulls off his towel and walks to his shower stall naked. It was also nice to see that I got a young guy to lighten up about the over modesty thing.

Here's another weird contradiction among the youth of today. Showing yourself naked around your own gender in the locker room, sauna, steamroom and shower is wrong, but appearing naked on-line or in a porno for the whole world to see is completely acceptable. Can anyone explain that to me? It was the other way around when I was younger.

My saunatorium can beat your saunatorium:

At some of my gym locations, you NEVER bare your feet. You must keep your socks and shoes while using the sauna. It's an unwritten rule.

Male feet have been so sexualized lately it's somewhat understandable.

Whoaa men, I have never seen such a thing so far!!! hope it's just a few exceptions.

I tried to adopt a comfortable approach about nudity in the locker room. I would go from my locker to the shower sans towel. I carried the towel by my side while proudly walking with my nude body on display.

Then I started getting unwanted attention from gay men. At first I got a guy looking at me in the shower room, and then I just ignored it. Eventually he got the drift and left me alone. A few other guys followed suite, but then one guy sees me naked in the locker room, and from that moment on, he starts to give me these really creepy vibes.

On the gym floor, I can feel his stares where he makes me feel naked. One time he saw me toweling off, and gave me this stare across the locker room, like a piece of meat. And I don't even know this guy.

Initially I didn't really know he was doing this - but I always got a weird feeling around him - until I noticed he had his locker next to mine and would hang out there until I would disrobe. Normally he would move his stuff to another part of the locker room, but instead he takes my nudity for granted.

One could say I should be flattered that someone wants to look at my goods, but it's the wrong kind of attention. This guy is a freaking pervert.

I've read on this forum that guys like this are normally harmless; just have bad social interaction with people and have to revert to locker room glances to get their fixes for male approval.

However since then, I have never really felt comfortable with being naked in the locker room. Anyone can walk in there and have an agenda to feel off your nakeness to get their rocka high.

So I think the reason to cover onself from unwanted attention in the locker room has merit.

i agree. its too bad there's creepy disgusting trolls out there.

it seems to always be the ugly creepy looking ones. its too bad that they have to ruin it for others by fucking up the vibe by giving it a creepy bath house feeling.

they should respect others and realize that some guys just wanna walk around naked in a locker room and chill. i'm pretty easy going but i get very angry when i get this vibe from one of these trolls and give them that "back the fuck off right now look" which usually takes care of it.

after all, if they wanna look at naked pics of me or hundreds of other guys they can go on this forum. LOL isn't that what the internet is for? haha

I spend about 90 minutes most days in the athletic center at a nearby universtiy. The facility is new and the men's locker room is clean, simple, and modern. The university did not waste money on shower stalls or dividers between the urinals. The shower room is large and all open with 12 shower heads. Most of the guys strip without a second thought to shower and take care of cleaning up after a workout.

I was about half finished with my workout today when I got the call of nature. I went to the locker room and entered the toilet to find that all three stalls were occupied by 3 separate guys who were either changing into gym clothes or getting dressed. One of the stalls is reserved for handicapped use. Any other time I would have just rolled my eyes and proceeded to use the urinal, but in this instance I needed to sit down. After about 1 minute I spoke up in a normal voice that I needed to use the toilet and that the stalls were not meant to be used as a dressing room, and I wanted someone out, now. One of the guys, whom I assume is a student, exited the stall and mumbled an apology. I was pissed because I was very uncomfortable at this time. I entered the stall and closed the door and snapped the lock loudly enough, without slamming it, to let the other 2 know that I was pissed off at them also. I took a dump, went back to the gym and completed my workout, showered and dressed and then I stopped by the managers office to advise him about the inappropriate use of the stalls. He said he will post a sign in the bathroom that the stalls are not to be used for dressing or undressing. Hell, the lockerroom has benches to sit on when any of us are dressing. There is almost no room to manuever in the stall to dress. What a trio of idiots!
