and I imagine the guys you are fussing about are fussing about you.

FWIW: noun |ˈpərvərt| a person whose sexual behavior is regarded as abnormal and unacceptable.

whose definition determines what is abnormal and unacceptable? that's a fight no one will win. :ponder:

I was about half finished with my workout today when I got the call of nature. I went to the locker room and entered the toilet to find that all three stalls were occupied by 3 separate guys who were either changing into gym clothes or getting dressed. One of the stalls is reserved for handicapped use. Any other time I would have just rolled my eyes and proceeded to use the urinal, but in this instance I needed to sit down. After about 1 minute I spoke up in a normal voice that I needed to use the toilet and that the stalls were not meant to be used as a dressing room, and I wanted someone out, now. One of the guys, whom I assume is a student, exited the stall and mumbled an apology. I was pissed because I was very uncomfortable at this time. I entered the stall and closed the door and snapped the lock loudly enough, without slamming it, to let the other 2 know that I was pissed off at them also. I took a dump, went back to the gym and completed my workout, showered and dressed and then I stopped by the managers office to advise him about the inappropriate use of the stalls. He said he will post a sign in the bathroom that the stalls are not to be used for dressing or undressing. Hell, the lockerroom has benches to sit on when any of us are dressing. There is almost no room to manuever in the stall to dress. What a trio of idiots!

I have commented about this bizarre behaviour before in other threads. I cannot understand why anybody would want to change in a toilet stall. Aside from the fact that the toilet area literally smells like shit and urine, how can one comfortable change in such a cramped area? Do they put their clothes on the toilet itself? Most times I don't even want to take a dump in a public toilet because the toilet seat is covered in piss, there's shit in the bowl because most are too lazy to flush and there is pubic hair and dried piss on the floor. GROSS!

I do applaud your univesity though for doing away with the stalls. That's the way it used to be at my university's athletic centre. Now they have installed stalls along the walls with 3 Badley towers in the centre. I have complained about it to management, but nothing has changed. I can't believe that my university's athletic centre has given into the pansies weak assed demands for shower stalls. If a guy is that uncomfortable with nudity around their peers in the men's locker room, they should keep the hell out. As another poster said, "someone should tell them to start acting like men". I couldn't agree more.

Here's another weird contradiction among the youth of today. Showing yourself naked around your own gender in the locker room, sauna, steamroom and shower is wrong, but appearing naked on-line or in a porno for the whole world to see is completely acceptable. Can anyone explain that to me? It was the other way around when I was younger.

That's a really good point AG - personal social situations make todays guys uncomfortable but they have no problem posting vids online (for the whole world to see) of them jacking off or having fun with their gf's...seems like they're a lot more comfortable with that in a parasocial sense and that's odd to me.

The lockerroom was like a rite of passage...sure you were uncomfortable at first but then you realized no one really gave a sh*t about you and fun of the male bonding experience of a bunch of naked guys talking about the game in the shower was worth it. If someone did "look?" SO WHAT! No one was forcing you to do anything you didn't want to do...and I admit I enjoyed the camraderie AND the scenery as much as the next guy:cool:

I personally would rather shower at home without a bunch of men in the locker room with me. There's just something about the privacy factor that I like combined with it being a more sanitary experience. I can see where you guys are coming from though, but on the flip side there are guys out whose sole purpose to be in the locker room is to check out dicks. Once showering in public a female can never say to you ever again that you don't know how it feels to be stared at like a piece of meat. Guys who shower in public showers know what that feels like, what's worse is a guy staring at a women in this manner still has much to leave to the imagination while a man staring at me in this manner can stand as close to me as he so chooses. Guys like that never freak me out to the point that I feel threatened but it does piss me off that they don't censor themselves as I would if I saw an attractive female. There seems to be a double standard where it's okay for a guy to completely focus on another guys dick, but God forbid a man look at a fully clothed woman for too long. It's not even that I have a problem with these individuals being there, as granted sometimes there are gonna be guys checking you out in the locker room, but if that's their sole purpose for being there then I don't wanna be there. I feel if these individuals weren't notorious for hanging out at public showers more people would feel comfortable showering with other men. That being said I still would not use public showers for a manner of cleanliness.

That being said I would never change in a bathroom stall, as using urinals in a public restroom proves to be a task in itself. It seems these days that they want you to grind the urinal for any sense of privacy and even when I stand back I run the risk of purposely standing back to far to show off. I know that however dirty the urinals are the toilets are 10X worse. I aslo don't want stalls in a public shower for the same reason as they just add to the dirtiness. That being said public anything is more dirty than one you would generally find at a home. This is another reason why I do not like public showers.

What in the hell is going on with men?

I made it to the gym today and worked out for two hours. It felt great to have the time to work out for that long, to complete failure on everything.
Off to the locker room to shower and take a sauna. My new gym has single stall showers with curtains (wtf? its a locker room) So i never take the time to close the curtain. I mean, I shave naked.

Anyway - while in the sauna and to shower and back again, no need for a towel or shower curtain, yet every guy today (about a dozen of them) came into the sauna in shorts, underwear, track pants even - when they showered, the shower curtain was slosed and practically super glued shut.
What in the hell is this about? It was just so annyoing to me. I made a point to be the only naked guy on his towel in the sauna, to shower with the curtain open, to stand at the sinks and shave, to weigh myself naked just to see what the other idiots did.
Of course they all looked and then ran away covering themselves up. Good grief. Knock it off already.

I agree. It's absolutely ridiculous. It's to the point now that even inanimate objects can be homosexual.

it's kind of bizarre how much you guys care about this

why does it matter to you if a guy wants to cover up and shower?

why do you want him to be naked so badly?

They should take a more relaxed approach to showering like these two do -

Well, said, and great picture. There is so much fun that guys should have in a locker room when it's just them in a same gender, male only bonding environment, as it has been throughout most of time:

Anything that destroys this is dangerous and unhealthy in so many ways, I for one am glad so many of you are concerned about guys not knowing how to be relaxed like this enough anymore in certain instances around each other anymore. And I especially applaud all of you who are not giving in to the cover up trend, and encourages others not to as well, etc.

I just think do what feels best for you.

If people think you're a prude for covering up because you don't want creepy peeps looking at you naked (and I've encountered that situation and it does not feel good, and it doesn't feel good seeing those creepy peeps in the weight room, as they eye you down in your naked form) then do that damn towel dance, and fuck if others don't like it, because this feels better to you.

But if you feel comfortable showing your goods and feel relaxed, regardless of who's in the locker room, even if there are creepy peeps there, more power to you. Be naked, but respect other's who feel differently.

Just do what feels good to you.

Thanks Goodwood.

I have to say one other thing, there is a lot of discussion about the young people not being comfortable with their bodies, and I think it's being directed by older people.

I have used the locker room at different gyms in my area, and usually there are older people who are in them, and feel comfortable naked. But older people don't get stared at like younger people, who have more fit bodies. If you're young looking, and you take care of your body, where it looks attractive naked, you attract stares. Some of it is complimentary, and some of it is from very needy and creepy voyeurs.

I think it's up to us on how we choose to perceive that stare, but I do not like people staring at me like some spectacle, because I choose to change and get naked in the locker room. It might seem flaterring, but when you invite people's sexual arousal, you activate a bunch of shit in them, which they project on to you. In other words, they project their insecurities about nudity and sexuality on to you, and all you did was just get naked in the locker room.

I also don't like feeling I have to push my belief that everyone has to join with me in my belief that naked is natural, and you should think like I do.

I like to feel comfortable naked, but I don't feel a need to have others join in my belief. So sometimes I will get naked in a locker room - if I can feel comfortable in that atmosphere - and sometimes I will not - because I know that i won't feel comfortable, and I will not be doing something that doesn't feel good.

LongandBigSub -

That is sensible and again, good for you. By the time i am done working out, my suscles are screaming in pain and i need the hot tub and sauna and i don't care who sees. But as it turns out, lots of guys want to and do look. That's their deal. My deal is try to keep muscles from cramping and get them to relax, shower and shave, dress and leave. I have gotten to the point that i realize guys look and stare and i have to disregard that and go about my own deal.

When I used to live in a very conservative town in Michigan, I got a temporary membership at the local YMCA, a very nice gym with new facilities. A large men's lockerroom, with a men's only sauna and large whirlpool hottub. Well, one day I decide to use the sauna and hottub (after showering). I got in to the hottub (naked, of course), and enjoyed soaking after a long workout. Well, a guy climbed in the tub in swimtrunks...and it took him a while to realize I was nude....he avoided eye contact with me, he didn't stay in long, and quickly got out. a few minutes later, another guy got in (wearing a swimsuit too), he then realized i was nude, and got out only a few minutes after getting in. THEN, I thought to myself....OH SHIT! am I supposed to wear trunks?? WTF??? There were no signs in the locker room. Then I thought, Is this a co-ed hottub? No, it wasn't, because the men's showers were just down the hall. Those guys looked at me like my head was cut-off. WTF??? It made me feel so uncomfortable, that I never went back to that gym again. Did I do something wrong?

after reading this thread....obviously, I was in the right. Fuckin' prudes!

There's a hot springs I love to go to near Death Valley National Park. Several years ago now they dropped in pit toilets to replace the volunteer built outhouses. So now people use the pit toilets as changing rooms. Yes, they do smell like shit.

This venue is more than two hours down a rough dirt road. It's in a broad desert valley with quite a bit of room between camping places - more than in any developed campground. Most people walk around naked and bathe naked. Maybe some people just don't know they are going to a nude venue? Several years ago my cousin and his wife hitchhiked out early because she couldn't get over the feeling that guys were staring at her - even though she wore a bathing suit in the pools. I just didn't get it.

There's often a couple perverts in health clubs. I've been accosted before myself - and most people know who they are because they are regulars - the ones who hang out in the locker room for no good reason instead of working out. But it is never more than a few. The way some of you talk the majority of guys in your health club act this way. There's always a couple weirdos, but it's also really weird in my view to unaccountably believe that everyone is fixated on your goods. It's a type of megalomania to me. Why would everyone be so focused on you?

So fucking what? Has anybody pointed to you that you are naked or have done anything that could give you the reason to be annoyed? Frankly, I'm annoyed with you. You and some others behave like "I dont give a fuck about being naked". Why do you give a fuck about OTHERS NOT!
WTF!

i think it's sad that the naked body has been so sexualized that people can't even fuckin shower any more. not only has the naked body been sexualized, but because of the conservative religious right, guys are called fags if they're within 10 feet of a naked guy. it's fuckin ridiculous, and it needs to be changed
