Nobody is defending Muslim extremism. Not all Muslims are extreme and not every act of violence committed by a Muslim is instigated by religion. Not all Muslims throw stones at homosexuals either. Islam is as broad a religion as Christianity with sects ranging from the very liberal to the extremely conservative.

Perhaps after spending centuries being called perverts, pedophiles, mentally ill, and wannabe women, homosexuals are more careful before assigning blame without evidence of cause.

Jason... you are absolutely right. There's all sorts of extremists from all backgrounds. I've known Christian bigots who hated gay people. However, people need to use some common sense. There's exceptions to every rule. The problem with Islam is not that there's a lone kook here and there who gets disgruntled and shoots people. The problem is that it is WAY TOO prevalent. And eventually, any honest, thinking person must ask themselves a simple question. Is their action potentially motivated by a faith in a messed up ideology? I mean, I've read the Bible, and I've read the Koran. I don't support crazy Christians who bash people with the Bible. But look at the fruits of religion. Is it a coincidence that stoning only occurs in Muslim countries? How about female genital mutilation?

Nazism is universally recognized as evil...as it should be. People understand that its tenants teach hate. But with Islam, we are told that since it is a "religion," we must suspend logic and accept the evil message. Namely, the Koran teaches death to Jews, Christians, homosexuals and all "infidels." For Christ sake, Muhammad himself was a violent, vile man. Please dismiss propaganda, for once, and use your obviously evolved brain. It's important for everyone's survival.

I was waiting for the inevitable wing-nut reaction to the Fort Hood Tragedy. They didn't dissapoint:
Birther Site Is Already Lying About Ft. Hood Shooter and Obama

Conspiracy-theorist Website WorldNetDaily posts the inevitable “connection” between Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan and President Obama, and it possesses the same level of rigor and responsibility we’ve come to expect from the leading source of disinformation that the president wasn’t born an American. Under the headline “Shooter Advised Obama Transition,” Jerome Corsi — he of the Swift Boat liars — writes:........

You sound like you are Islamaphobic. In reality, Islam is not an extreme religion in any sense. And if you read the Bible properly, you would be able to find lots of examples of quotes which would point to it being an "extreme" religion, and extreme Christians have used such passages before as an excuse to commit all sorts of atrocities agaisnt others. "Do not let witches live" is one of them-and witch hunts were still going in in England well into the 17th and 18th centuries, and it wouldn't surprise me if there is some isolated Christian sect today that still believes witches are real.

I am originally from Bosnia & Herzegovina, which you may or may not know has Islam as a majority relgion, with almost 50% of the inhabitants declaring their religion as Islam. And yet, oddly enough, almost all Muslims there smoke, drink and have sex outside marriage. The relationship people have with their mosque is the same relationship as most people have with the church in Western countries i.e. one may attend the church once or twice a year and observe religious holidays such as Christmas, but that is where it starts and stops. Only very religious people attend church regularly and practise Christianity in everyday life, and it is exactly the same with Islam.

And by the way, stoning and genital mutilation occurs only in Islamic countries which are economically and socially backward, e.g. Somalia. In all the developed Islamic countries-take Malaysia for example-these practises are long gone.

You should've stopped there.

But you didn't.

Hitler and Stalin were Christians. Pol Pot studied at a Buddhist monastery and went to Catholic school. Andrea Yates drowned her five kids to save them from hell. Jim Jones claimed to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ.

Got the idea?

I would argue that the vast majority of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists Hindus... manage to practice their religion peacefully and avoid committing atrocities. A few do not.

You're a God-damn idiot. Anyone who cannot separate collateral damage with intentional massacre is hardly worth the oxygen he breaths (or doesn't).

Oh... and why hasn't anyone mentioned the guy's true motive. "Allah Akbar!"

[Ignoring the Muslim elephant in the room]

Consider this collateral damage for all the terrible shit the US has been doing in the last 40 years, in the middle east, in the name of profit.

Oh wait, people are only "collateral damage" when their brown.

[Ignoring the US foreign policy elephant in the room]

PS: We also bombed the funeral they had for the people who died in the wedding we bombed. Not kidding.

As long as the USA or any country continues to train young men (and women) to kill others, this will be our collective karma. It will never change until all the people of the world will it to.

Sargon: It might be the water. There was that mass shooting at a Luby's Cafeteria also in Killean, Texas back in 1991. The shooter first drove his Bubba-mobile through the building and then took out about 23 people.

And then there was Charles Whitman, famous UT Tower sniper who clipped the wings of many and also killed his share back, I believe, in 1963? They've kept the UT Bell Tower closed ever since.

I'm certain we're missing others, like the San Ysidro McDonalds massacre where some white guy shot all of the Mexican Americans as well as just some plain old-fashioned Mexicans because he'd "had enough of them!" according to some note he'd left. As I recall, once he'd slaughtered everyone in the McDonalds, he just waited and shot a slew of young kids as they ran in to buy milkshakes or those famous hot fruit turnovers.

It seems that mass murder is a long-standing USA custom. Sort of a tradition among our mentally ill.

Good point. Maybe it's the copycat nature of the beast.

The cultural aspect is evident too particularly in Hollywood, guns and killing are the way to solve your problems. Just 'take 'em out'. A movie in which you fondle someone's gentiles is an 'NC-17' but if you shoot the genitals well that's an 'R'.
