Many years ago. . .I took paxil for a short time. I discontinued using it for the sole reason that it took me forever to cum. And when I finally did cum, it just wasn't that satisfying. I remember thinking at the time, they should give this stuff to premature ejaculators. . .Problem solved.

I've played the roulette wheel with almost of all of them.. Only problems I had were on Zoloft.. But it also didn't work anyway, so I didn't stay on it that long.

Another Boston guy here.
I was on one antidepressant, and I couldn't cum. I approached the cliff, just couldn't jump off. My wife loved it, for a time or two, then she really hated it.
Switched to lexapro, which is the same chemicals as welbutrin, just the molecules are a mirror image. Welbutrin didn't work for me, but lexapro was like nothing, only the depression went away. Was fine for years. One day, I realized I never got horny any more. Blamed lexapro, and switched to amitryptaline.
Doing fine.

I'm curious if any of you guys are taking any antidepressants that increase your libido or help you maintain a firmer erection...or even last longer. I want to start one and I'd like to have some first hand knowledge before I speak with a doctor and not destroy my sex life.

From what I know about them a common side effect is erectile dysfunction but varies from medication and person. Let your doctor know if that side effect is a grave concern of yours. He or she may give trial runs of different medications and see which one is most effective yet doesn't come with certain unwanted side effects such as loss of libido and ED. Not every man experiences those side effects and it may take some time for you and your doctor to figure out the right medication for you.

Otherwise search for alternative methods to help with your depression other than medications.

Tough question. I've tried lots of antidepressants, most of them affected my libido and ruined erection. To my knowledge, trazodone (Desyrel) and bupropion (Wellbutrin) don't. For me they had other side effects I couldn't put up with, though.

Yes, I've been on a few different ones and I had more strange side effects than ED or erection issues. I've heard the tricyclic anti-ds are the worse (since they are older). I did try the Wellbutrin and that didn't really do much for me. Never heard of Trazodone (Desyrel).

I was taking Setraline which made me feel a bit hornier but the big problem with that medication for me was that I could not climax and ejaculate: it was as if I had no feeling in my dick and although I was going through the motions it killed that rush you feel before you cum. Between that and side effects including frequent urination/ difficulty urinating I felt pretty emasculated... definitely worth talking to your doctor for advice and providing them with feedback

It seems like the SSRI's (Celexa, Lexapro, Paxil, Zoloft and Prozac) have more of the sexual dysfunction than any other class. From what I read it seems Wellbutrin (bupropion) and Desyrel (Traszodone) have the fewest. They are the newest class of drugs it seems.

I appreciate everyone letting me know. Wonder why they cant make one that increases libido and erections! haha

Wellbutrin didn't affect my libido much, but it prolonged my erection time before orgasm. You may think that could be a good thing... but most people not in porno think 45 minutes is too long to be fucking without an orgasm.

I found with SSRIs that I could get hard but it was almost impossible to ejaculate. They did nothing for the depression. MAOIs had little effect on anything other than having to be careful not to eat certain foods! The good old-fashioned tricyclics gave the best clinical improvements and with them I have never experienced any problems with my prick getting hard or with ejaculating. I think, too that side effects vary colossally from person to person. My GP told me that tricyclics are still very effective in treatment, but few people can tolerate the side-effects; fortunately I have been fine. Good luck with finding something which works and you may also find that side-effects wear off after two or three weeks.

I had never heard of the food restrictions for MAOIs. Luckily I'm not considering that class of drugs. I too had a similar issue with SSRIs with delayed ejaculatoin. Didn't bother me too much since I'm a quick shooter so I enjoyed it. But it did feel odd and more desensitized. Sounds like TCAs might be the best and start with a very low dose.

I agree. Taking 45 minutes to cum is not ideal...not even in the porn industry! haha

I took Citalopram for anxiety. No issues obtaining or maintaining an erection. An instant day 1 issue was the ability to cum tho. There were a couple instances i gave up jerking off since it would take too long. Those side effects didn't last long tho - id say after a couple months of use i was back to normal.
