Does Lorazepam affect a man's sexual ability in any way? I need to know as I am on this and I am having problems with my sexual abilities.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Hello there!

I am not a specialist, but deal with antidepressants.

As I far as I know lorazepam is one of the most used and older medicine in the market. My father took it and the effects on him affected his sleeping and his behavior. Affected him more than the benefits he had. Sexually I don't have a clue. That was more than 30 years ago and he had to change to another better medicine.

My suggestion is you to check how you feel in general with lorazepam, including sexually, and look for another medicine with your doctor.

My antidepressant is a new generation. It's very expensive but the side effects are minimum. And in the sexual area, none.

The best of lucks and that you feel better soon!

One thing that is a double edge sword is I stopped working at the beginning of the pandemic. For all the stress of the isolation, my psych was WAY improved by not going to a 50-60 hr wk deadline driven job I was really burned out from. Even on my 10mg dose I was having panic attacks just driving the freeway. So at 62 I guess I "retired". But now has introduced some other stresses both monetarily and family wise that complicate things (private healthcare costs are a stresser...). My doctor hints that I was edging towards PTSD. Hence the inability to quickly diffuse stress before the panic would set in. My next step is therapy of some type for long term results. ;)
Very interesting that I should stumble on this today as a day or two ago an article appeared in, I think, the Spectator, written by a doctor, claiming that the rush to prescribe antidepressants was a mistake, that doctors did so because it was easy and doctors didn't have time to what was really required which was to examine the patient's life in some detail. It also suggested that "broken" workplaces were a big part of the problem.

I'm with you. The ad's are just band aids. It's the root cause that's tough to address. Trouble is while the AD's are not long term beneficial, they do work for many... Really. I'm a fan of going after the root cause. It's a longer journey that's for sure!

I took Paxil for about 2 years in the mid-90's. It completely killed my sex drive. Sometimes I couldn't get hard, other times I could get hard but not get off. I could fuck forever but not get any release for myself. I was weird visual distortions when I decided to stop taking it. I didn't stop it cold, but I slowly tapered it off. It took months for my sex drive to come back and all these years later I don't think it's ever been the same.
