Anxiety And Penis Shrinkage/retraction

I'm curious if any of you guys have noticed your penis shrinking up or retracting up into you due to anxiety and what did you do to solve it.

I was diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder and for the most part I've been fine my entire life. But as I age I've notice my penis retracting more up inside me, as well as my balls sucking up inside. Not just related to cold weather, etc. And I read an article that anxiety can tense up your genitals and the cord that lets the penis and scrotum hang. So I was wondering if there is a way to relax everything down there.

I'm on xanax and thinking of trying something else. But it still seems to happen. I was thinking maybe a muscle relaxer? I'm not sure.

You might want to consider talking to your Dr. about this problem. Never heard of, or had that problem.
I've talked to my doctor a bit and ran testosterone tests which all are ok. I've read a few random articles online about it but no real solutions. But I guess if you dont have anxiety it might not happen to you. Or if you hold your stress in other places. I might hold mine in my pelvis or genital region maybe. But thanks!

As I get older, I have noticed that when doing exercise, blood flows out of dick. (aka: shrinkage :-(
In the summer, I find shrinkage is less towrads end of season when I am in better shape.
Weight gain also makes penis stick out less.

I've had this problem all my life and have never found an answer to it. It's very embarrassing and unstoppable. Doctors visits, locker rooms, anywhere I have to be naked in a non sexual situation . I'm 70 years old and it never changes. Physical exercise has the same effect

I suffer from anxiety as well and experience shrinkage. I just started using a 100% pure CBD oil , orally. That has helped in both areas. Also hydration has played a role. Before the cbd I used Ashwagandha which is an herbal remedy that helps with anxiety. Both of which I discussed with my physician before taking. Shrinkage is far less often.

Good to hear someone else is dealing with this too. I've heard of Ashwagandha but never took it. I wonder if that would be dangerous to take if I'm already taking anti-anxiety meds. Do you have a brand of either the Ashwagandha or the CBD oil that you take that significantly helps? Does it help with any other aspect of your life like sexually or something?

If your on a benzodiazepine(Xanax), that’s a short term fix for most anxiety disorders. They have fading usefulness and your likely not really being “treated”. You should discuss with your doctor or another doctor real treatment options.

SSRI’s(Like my favorite Lexapro) do have a few sexual side effects possible, some drugs are less of an issue for different people. Some side effects are dose dependent and others fade with time. Lexapro is a really good one with lower chances of side effect. If that’s an issue there are a few more drugs in that class and other classes of medications to explore.

Having said that, being under treated for an anxiety disorder is no way to live. Be willing to try a few different options and give each one a few months to stabilize. Most important be very honest with your doctor and give him/her as much feedback about your treatment as possible. Be willing to get a second opinion or work with a specialist.

The previous reply that mentioned mindfulness therapy is an option too.

PS. you will need to taper the benzodiazepine, it’s withdrawal effects could contribute to the perception of treatment failure of a new agent.

Yes, I've been on and off all of them over the years. Xanax, Klonopin and Ativan (which did absolutely nothing so I switched back to Xanax). I've tried so many anti-depressants for their anxiety effects its ridiculous. I have another one called imipramine to try in the new year. I have so many side effects, especially sexual ones, I often cant stay on them. I never had luck with the SSRI's so I usually always try the trycylics ones which are known for side effects of all kinds. I'll keep searching. Thanks man.

Instead of introducing more potentially harmful medications into your body (ones that have the very real possibility of creating long-term permanent side-effects)...
How about considering that, unless you live your life naked from the waist down in public all the time, it doesn't really matter if it pulls up a bit.
It's a survival response.
Your body is trying to protect itself, because it feels like it might be in danger.
Since you didn't mention it having an adverse effect on your sex life..... Why the hell are you worrying about it?

Yea, it does have an adverse affect on my sex life and other parts of my life. I avoid sex with anyone because of other anxiety related issues. The testicle retreat is just part of it. I understand your concern though. I hate meds too.

I am not in the medical field but thought this input might add some understanding.

Anxiety issues do not impact me, so my input here may be of little value. But I can attest to the impact that diabetic medications (like metformin) have on dick length. Since I began taking metformin about 2 years ago, my dick swings at least one inch less than before.

Metformin is usually accompanied with a diuretic. After taking the drug, the urge to pee is frequent and almost instantaneous. By the time you feel pressure in the bladder, the urge can almost be uncontrollable. When this happens your brain and muscle systems reacts to control bladder activity and may hold that position for extended periods of time.

My nephrology did a good job of explaining how taking a pee involved a lot of brain and bladder interaction. Point being that muscles associated with urine retention do “tighten” for a number of reasons and the result can make the penis actually pull up or appear to shrink.

Check out Internal urethral sphincter - Wikipedia It’s all a lot more complicated that first thought and there are lots of opportunities for different medications to get involved.

Same here except my nuts never used to retract as much as they do now. I notice when relaxed laying in bed or after I just wake up I'm hanging (dick an balls) like I used too. Also when I'm extremely tired things seem to be more loose. Other times I hate it. Especially since the wife likes playing with my scrotum when it isn't all shriveled but it seems to be a rarity when it isn't. My flaccid is also all over the map. It goes from sub 4" to over 5" at times. Sometimes its so bad my fore skin is covering my glans which I don't think should happen since I'm circumcised. I don't know what causes it. Age, stress, low T?

My cock changes in size all the time. Sometimes even though I'm circumcised it shrinks and disappears, with my foreskin out. Sometimes it is like a button dick and sometimes it is 4 inch out when flaccid. Lol.. I've noticed when I'm cold, it shrinks..

It's one of the reactions that has been there since the beginning of life. The body signals a threat or a dangerous situation only to release adrenaline in order to prepare for fight or attack. If there is no reason to fight (I guess there's no reason) then a natural way of wearing off the tension is mind control (think of a good situation or a nice location you have seen) deep breathing for a couple of times and alternating breathing through nostrils by blocking one of them and letting air in through the other. Laughter is a stress killer, you already know that. Minimizing body moves can help as well. But don't seek solutions only from medication. Natural supplements may help, but try to avoid chemicals. The body must have enough magnesium to lower cortisol. Pumpkin and chia seeds are excellent, so is spinach, nuts, black beans, leafy greens, mackerel, avocado and dark chocolate. Try these and keep laughing it off mate. Happy new year.
