Hi, just wondering if there are any older guys on here who have enlarged prostates with the accompanying urination difficulty and have been persuaded to have, or elected to have the Trans-Urethral Prostate Resection surgery. I ask because my own prostate enlargement, (four times normal size) is causing problems which included an urgent visit to hospital recently. This involved being catheterised for a complete bladder blockage, and a two day stay. My urologist has been trying to persuade me to have the TURP operation for some years, but I'm resisting it because I don't want to live with the 60 to 70% chance of suffering retro-grade ejaculation for the rest of my life. Feeling myself and watching myself shoot my load is one of the biggest pleasures in life. At the moment, I'm on medication, (Tamsulosin) to try to avoid the operation, I've got no idea whether its doing any good, but within two days of starting to take it, I'm suffering the side effect of the retro-grade ejaculation which is a serious downer. I'd like to stop taking it just to be able to shoot my load properly again, but it might lead to another blockage, and I don't want to risk that again.
If anyone here has been through the TURP procedure, I'd be interested to hear your experiences and to hear any advice. Thanks

I too live in the North of England and I was persuaded to have the prostate operation you refer to in your post. The operation took about 45 minutes with a general anaesthetic and an epidural (didn't realise I was pregnant as well). I was in the hospital for two days then went home with no direct side effects from the operation apart from passing a little blood in the initial post op stages when I hadn't drunk enough water.

I have some fantastic orgasmic pulses, much better than I have ever had but unfortunately there is no ejaculation. It feels a little strange but hey sex isn't messy any more. One of the factors that persuaded me to have the operation was the opportunity to get off Tamsulosin which was giving me blocked nasal passages and disturbed sleep. Much better now those tablets have gone. Good luck with you decision.

I would go to two major university hospitals, ask for a referral to the Chief of Urology and get the opinion on your data, or have the data redone.

A TUR-P will not prevent cancer; not knowing how old you are: that might be a concern.

Many urologists in the US are using low dose Viagra and similar drugs to open up the urethra.

Ask about this. Meanwhile, many people complain of backaches 2º to the above Rxs.

Top information allied with common sense is the key. Example, ask the physician what he would do for himself or his dad; my point is to 'humanize' the advice. We are more than just statistical probabilities.

Also, remember that the intensity of an orgasm has a lot to do with serotonin. See a few of my recent posts.

I have heard that 5mg daily tabs of cialis is used for benign prostate enlargement and of course the extra benefit of good erections.
