the reason why they did away with the very first rip tabs on tins? Improved it with the push pull tabs.

Here in Aus it was when at the beach or playing footy at sport parks. People, kids would cut their feet etc, on the aluminum tabs discarded.

When I was a lifeguard I think I stepped on about a million of those little buggers. We made a chain link curtain for the staff office one summer; I wonder whatever happened to it? Similar to this but the old ones were much easier to manipulate.

I remember those. People use to make motor bikes and stuff out of them :) Not real motor bikes :) So, are ya gonna change your avatar nudie? Even for a wee bit? :)

Here, in the states, people would pull the tab off and drop it inside the can. There was a fear/ phobia/ concern that people would accidentally swallow the tab and choke.

We use to do that too, and there were adverts to say so. But ultimatley it was, as I remember the cutting from discarded tabs which was of the most concern.

When I was young, I made a chain of ones we had collected. I think it ended up a little over 100' long. But the point of this story is that Mom hung it in the basement and she still won't let me throw it away 40 years later.
