7 Emily banks ideas | emily banks, sci fi girl, star trek

The problem with television or the movies is everything is frozen in-time. An actor or actress you see on the screen is forever in their twenties or thirties.

Sometime back when my hormones kicked-in, I saw a rerun of the original Star Trek series titled Shore Leave. In that episode a group of the usual flight deck officers of the good ship Enterprise-- plus one-- beamed down to a planet for some much needed R&R. As all Trekkers know full well, any guest stars aboard the Starship are usually slated for either extermination, or amore.

Through third parties (supposedly) knowledgable with history surrounding that TV show, that first season taping was done on October 19, 1966 at a small African-like theme park off of Soledad Canyon Road. Apparently the atmosphere was light and festive on the set. According to the script actress Emily Banks, hired as one of the Enterprise's sleek and attractive yeoman officers, was to change clothes into a fairy tale princess via garments conveniently found on some nearby foliage. Between takes, a still photographer furiously snapped away at luscious Emily who proved she was far more PG-13 or R than G. Somehow outages always emerge decades later.

There was a thread wayyyyy back, asking people what inspired their screen names here

The 001 in my screen name comes from Star Trek TNJ. It references the Spatial coordinates of ( Earth ) the Terran System

Well, anyone who knows me, both here and in offline life, can tell you my Trekkie bona fides. I've been a fan since the 70's and grew up with reruns of the original on TV. Not only did the show help inspire my love of the Trek Universe, but Sci-fi in general. In fact, many of my future political and social views were in fact formed due to Gene Roddenberry's utopian and progressive vision of the future; something I deeply hope will come about, even though I realize it likely never will.

I loved most of the sequel series like TNG and DS9, but the quality started fading with Voyager, IMO, and I admit I stopped watching after Enterprise's second season; although after reviewing the whole show again (including the seasons I didn't see the first time), I admit that while still sub-standard, it wasn't as bad the second time around that I initially thought.

However, at the risk of causing inter-generational controversy, I have never seen any of the newer CBS shows and based upon everything I've read, have no desire to waste money paying to see something I do not consider part of Star Trek. While some parts of Picard or Lower Decks sounds interesting, but Discovery totally sounds like rubbish due to both it's destruction of canon and R-rated story lines.

Pretty much ditto for the J.J. Trek movies being a dunsel within the Trek universe. While they might have been somewhat entertaining, but to me Star Trek has always been about it's stories and morality plays, not just special effects lens flare presented to a Beastie Boys soundtrack.

So to me, Star Trek pretty much ended as something great after Voyager and I'm admittedly still living in it's past.
