It's my least favorite part of the day. I dread taking a shower and shaving because it means a lost 20 minutes or more of my day. Plus, I've discovered that I really hate drying off. It might be because I am super hairy, but it seems like it takes forever to get dry. Like, an hour.

Now, I don't mind getting wet in the ocean if I have unlimited time to dry off in the sun by lying on my towel. And a pool is OK. I'm even fine with communal showering situations; I even like those, though increasingly that just means a private stall at a public venue. Still, they're an improvement over the cramped tub shower and stall shower I have at home -- not fun places to hang out for 15 minutes. I'm much happier showering in a 500 square foot room with 6 other guys.

I can't count the number of times I've wanted to just dash out the door to something but then realized that I haven't showered and shaved yet, so it sets all the plans back another hour (to include drying) and then I've lost my motivation to go do whatever it was, or the store has closed, or the show has started. I guess some people address it by stumbling directly from bed into shower every morning; when I used to have to go to an office every morning I more or less did that.

Anyone else dread showering/shaving, or have any suggestions for making them enjoyable?

I don't shave just for the sake of it, and my long hair takes a while to dry, but I don't let either of these facts bug me or stop me from keeping clean.

An hour to get dry seems incredible - do you live in a rain forest?

I like being wet. Sometimes I think about you when I'm all warm and soapy in the shower! You need to hire some nubile young men to come and fan you dry with palm fronds (I bet you would like that!

I think you should install a super duper en suite master bath like I have in Honolulu (Indoor outdoor shower etc) I think you would like that.

I can't tell you the number of times I've run out the door looking like a train wreck and run into people I know. Now at least I have the where-with-all to hide under a baseball cap and sunglasses.

I don't particularly like being wet, either. Especially shaving. You get the water running down your forearms, dripping off your elbows, making little puddles on the sink....:frown1:

I do like your suggestion, and it crossed my mind as I was writing my post. I have an attractive partner and we used to enjoy showering together when we were on more or less the same schedule. Maybe I just need to start getting up at 5:30 am with him and getting the ablutions out of the way early...

That's why I shave in the shower: you don't have to worry about the mess!

I actually like to shower. I usually do it at the end of the day before I head for bed and it's a relaxing part of my wind-down to the day.

I love the physical sensation of a hot shower -- it's one of my favorite ways to relax -- but as far as the time it takes, especially as I get older, I totally know how you feel. And like you, when I had to be at work at 8 every morning it wasn't an issue -- I would literally stagger into the shower and wake up in there. But now that my days are more flexible I never seem to know when the best time to shave/shower is, and so I always have to rush it right before I have to be somewhere.

I'm indifferent to showering, it's just a necessary part of my day. Although, I can relate with the whole drying bit. Seems like it takes at least 30+ minutes to get dry "enough." I sometimes still feel "damp" hours later.

That being said, I fucking hate shaving, especially when it comes to facial hair. The only time I shave is when it's absolutely necessary. Other than that, I just trim my hair to keep it under control.

Personally, I love to shower. I often will take nice, long hot showers; like a half hour or more. Something about the water and the steam relaxes me.

That being said, I HATE shaving with a passion. It's just something I have to do every couple of days. I usually shave with an electric razor, because that minimizes the time and the mess. However, mine recently broke, so, now I'm back with the cream and blade.

Most of the time, I'll have a beard or a goatee, esp. in the wintertime. That way, don't really have to shave as much, and also, it keeps me warmer in the winter.

I don't think anyone likes shaving but I installed a fog free mirror in the shower and it's less mess and fuss than all the spish-splash in the sink. (and the steam seems to soften the beard and make shaving a tad easier) Every once and a while if I'm passing an old fashioned barber shop I'll stop in for a hot shave. It's not all that expensive and it's nice to lean back and let someone else do the work.

I agree with the others who said they love showering and hate shaving.

I try to shave every other day, but if I go for longer without shaving, then I will look raggy because I can't even grow a full beard - so it's patchy and gross. I used to use an electric razer, but I found that it tugged on my skin and it hurt. Not to mention it missed several strands of hairs under my jaw. I've since gone back to using a blade and razer.

I do both at the end of the day. I find shaving is easier to do in the shower, but otherwise I'll shave after I shower. Then I can climb in bed feeling clean and relaxed (and doing that also keeps your bedsheets clean, too, by the way, so you won't have to wash them as often as you would if you went to bed all dirty from a hard day's work).

A shower is typically the high point of my day. I hate NOT being wet, most of the time.

Shaving though... ugh, I hate it. Such a hassle, I wish there was a better alternative to not look homeless!

totally agree with you. lolz. i love taking and shower.
I love my shower gel and body scrum. my luffa and brush... I just love my shower

3-5 Days for a Hand Shave OK
(asian part i suppose)
Not a problem last little while, after i mastered exactly how i wanted to shave.. ie
2-3 mins no sweat
Hate electric shavers
(besides, gays can hardly really handle any tool more powerful than an electric screwdriver, apparently?)

Shower no sweat, either lengthy or usually 5 mins max, saves water, and does the job, quick dry and clothed, out the door
Only really Shower when going out and about, dont now believe in washing away the bodies Natural smell & oils ..
Learnt on Isolated Island living, not reccomended for City Living Folk ha

For all those that hate shaving.Try some real shave soap, not the canned goo.And a real razor, a straight razor or DE safety. Not a cartridge or electric. With a good quality blade and real soap there is no tugging or pulling. There is a learning curve,it's not a scrape and go deal.

It does not have to be a chore,It can be fun and relaxing!

Funny you say that as thats exactly what i have used for years, plain ole Sunlight soap NZ / Aus best pure soap, and when in Aussie it was another of there equivalents Preservene ( i think)
Plus the best of Gillette double edged plastic blade disposables, cant go wrong, it just zips thu it all, lengthy growth or just daily, in a few minutes
Non of the BS expensive canned chemical foam crap.

I never mind getting wet.

Showering is less hassle if you have a nice place to do it in. I love my Big Rain shower and heated towel bars.

I get my shave nearly every Saturday morning from Mehmet the Fat. His barber shop is about 200 meters away from the house. A double shave, trim the eyebrows, nose hair and back of the neck, plus a massage, local gossip and all the tea I can drink for about six bucks. It's a very relaxing and civilized way to start the weekend.

If it's not possible to see Mehmet I shave in the shower with some quality soap and a Mach 3. I don't use a mirror though. Just do it by feel.
