I tuned out after the 3rd season. I'm surprised it's still on TV.

Survivor has been targeted for the hardcore fans almost exclusively for the last three or four years, so the "haven't watched since season 3" crowd need not be bothered.

I think the effective "teams of two" twist is great, that's going to lead to some really new and interesting alliance dynamics. I'm upset they're bringing Redemption Island back, though, it's such a waste of time. The weirdness about being able to switch places with your loved one makes it even worse- I can already picture Rupert's wife getting voted out early, and CBS spends an hour of the next three episodes talking about how heroic his decision was and about his noble journey for redemption, blah blah... it's not part of the true game and wastes episode time >_<

The teams with one older and one younger member are going to be very interesting, I feel like they will either all go first or all go far due to being included in both of the typical "young" and "middle aged" social groups/alliances that form early. My bets are on Gervase and his niece since they will have that social edge, and won't be seen as threats.

I think all "reality TV" (funny name because there is nothing real about it) is total crap. As an actor, it if offensive to me and to other actors who have trained hard and are professional about our craft to see these moronic knuckleheads on TV. TV networks love making this garbage because it is dirt cheap to produce. It is because of reality TV that we now have a culture of celebrating the mediocre. Many of these "reality stars" never go on to anything else because they are mediocre, untalented, and are only good for shock value. Quite a few of them have said that appearing on reality TV was the worst thing that happened to them and ruined their lives.

I must admit reality TV has ruined our culture and society amongst other things. And the fact we watch shows like this and make sub par people with poor personalities into huge celebrities is a joke.

It's a survivor :)

I watched the first one or two shows when it first came out. As soon as I realised that it was one of these shows that highlights and treats selfishness, lies and back stabbing your mates as the only way to survive and rewards it, then I knew it was not the show for me.

I'm planning on sitting quietly and giving it a watch, purely because I really enjoyed some of the old characters that are returning. I mean, it's worth a watch just to see that.

I've never been foolish enough to make these "personalities" as a celebrity or hero. I have always considered them as average joes who act how they think they need to. Doesn't make them good people, but I always loved to see the trickery, deception, etc.

Survivor lost its appeal for me as it became more scripted and staged with each succeeding year. There are, of course, video, lighting and sound crews present for every minute we see, which makes those "intimate" conversations all the more phony. Just over the hill would be the toilets, showers and cafeteria. There is no longer a "survival" element, and the only reason they set up on a tropical island is to give an excuse to take their shirts off.
