Seems like the community is overall super into jockstraps and "gay underwear"... seems like they really don't flatter anyone. I would rather see a guy in boxer briefs he bought in an 8 pack at Walmart. So much more of a sexy masculine look. It always seems like a struggle to say so on Grindr, cuz men in normal underwear is such a major turn on for me and I get sent a pic with a pink thong and lose it.

To each their own, obviously loads of dudes are into it. But is it that bad to just wear some Calvin Klein or Nike boxer briefs? Just me actually turned off?

I admit it's inconceivable to me that a jockstrap--an article of clothing that is uniquely male and associated with athletics, which is about the most masculine thing you can do--would turn a guy OFF. Of course, I understand that my experiences of sexual awakening in a time and place when all American athletes wore jockstraps is not every man's experience.
I will further specify that I have a huge thing for traditional athletic supporters like Bike or Duke, but I do NOT find previous, vibrantly colored "fashion jocks" a turn on. They're too self-consciously "precious" for my taste, so maybe my feelings about them are similar to your feelings about jocks in general.
In my entire life I have never lost my strong feelings about the male psyche that is embedded in the iconic jockstrap.

Meh... It's probably the same as tattoos for me. Both of them they mean absolutely nothing to me.... tattoos are somewhat appalling, but anyway....
I agree with that. I think tats ruin a guy's body. However, I know there are tons of guys out there who don't feel that way.

im completely turned off by jockstraps as well for a variety of reasons,
firstly, they are complete irrelevant to the greek culture. no sports people in greece wear them, nor they existed in any sort of school/gym setting. thus i have no residual desires from growing up as alot of americans have.

aditionally to the above reason, since i only see jockstraps in gay porn, they are the gayest piece of clothing someone could wear. an instant-giveaway thus not particularly erotic, aditionally 99% percent of jockstrap fantasies revolve around smelly/worn jockstraps which is also not my thing.

finally i find them ridiculous to wear, and honestly surprised why men would wear underwear that leaves your ass completely uncovered, unless you want to take something up your arse.

agree about tatoo's, they are a big turn-off when it is blatant body covering tatty works or so-called art. Why inflict all that on a body when it's going to fade over the years, and do you know what in twenty years time you will still "love Alice - or Alan"?

I can certainly understand all these points. RATIONALLY, it is indeed kind of odd to have your ass exposed, tho sometimes guys prefer that because a covered ass can sweat more. And I"m not really an ass man, so the exposed back doesn't do it for me.
They did and do serve a practice purpose of containing your balls, tho admittedly sports brief do that as well.
I think it's just cultural. As an American of my generation, jockstraps were the norm all thru my formative years, so I think they're fucking hot, provided they're actual athletic supporters and not fashion cutesy-pie jocks. Since they're embedded in my visual memory, they're a turn on.

Of course they are a turn-on for many people, and i fully understand it, especially Americans that have been conditioned to see it as a garment directly connected to str8 men.

for example in the same fashion, i find gray sweatpant bulges extremely sexy, as i was constantly looking at them at school as that was by definition, the "gym outfit". no wrestling singlets, no changing rooms, no stripping. etc

It is male lingerie, it is the about the furthest thing from masculine I can think of. Or at least the furthest from bro-ey thing out there. People wear it try to look sexy, which in turn is anything but that.

Hard to see how a jockstrap, the very essence of maleness that focuses on a guy's cock and balls, is "the furthest thing from masculine. Jockstraps arose in the most masculine space conceivable: the locker room.

Now, having said that, as I admitted before, "fashion jocks" don't do it for me because they seem girly (quite the opposite of a standard classic white athletic supporter). Moreover, THONGS are totally unmasculine in my eyes; they suggest female strippers, so forget it. Perhaps that's what you mean by "male lingerie".
Of course, it's all a matter of personal taste, even tho I don't get how anyone can call a real jock unmasculine.
