I was never a stripper - I was a pole dancer for a summer - in Amsterdam - anything I earned got spent imediately in the various cafes and other hangouts I frequented but I had a truly awesome time doing it. The club was very relaxed and the clientele were 50/50 male and female. It was a real buzz.

Edit: Oh, and by the way, I would have loved to have seen your show

Yep. All through college. Paid the bills and bought me a new truck. Everyone kept asking me why I was always so tired all the time. LOL.

For the guys who have worked as strippers or erotic dancers, I'm curious why you did it. Did you actually enjoy it or was it just for the money? Aren't there better ways to make money?

There's a bar in my area that has nude male dancers. When they are on stage they get a few bucks here and there. On busy nights, the best-looking guys do pretty well, but many of the guys don't seem to be getting much. On slow nights, which is most of the week except for Friday & Saturday, they're lucky if they get anything. They don't get paid and the club takes a cut of their tips. Most of them don't last for more than a few weeks. My guess is that the money isn't worth it.

Some of the patrons wave dollars in front of the dancers, but make them perform to get the money. As a paying customer, I understand wanting to get something for my money--I hate it when a dancer walks away as soon as you give him something (I'm not paying him to leave)--but some of the stuff the dancers do seems pretty degrading for just a couple of bucks.

For the dancers, the stage show is basically an "advertisement." The real goal is to give private dances, which costs $20 for 10 minutes. Naturally, the good dancers make the dance as erotic as possible so that you'll stay longer than 10 min. I've spent way too much money there. At the same time, I feel bad that I say "no" to 5 out of 6 dancers when they offer me a private dance. It's not that I don't want to, but I can't afford it. A good dancer can do pretty well on a busy night, but a lot of the guys don't seem to have much luck attracting customers, and I feel bad for them.

You can tell that some of the dancers don't enjoy what they're doing. Others put up a pretty good act, but one dancer that I got to know personally said that he hated it. He especially disliked giving private dances to men he found unattractive, which was almost all of the men he danced for. He only did it because he was a high school dropout with no job skills, and already had 3 kids at the age of 21. Also, I'd say that most of the dancers seem to be straight-identified, so even if they like the money and the attention, I can't imagine that they'd enjoy it very much.

I stopped going to this bar a while ago because having cute boys dance naked for you isn't as much fun when there's so much pressure to tip them. It's just so obvious that you have to pay them for their attention. Sometimes it's like feeding the squirrels. Once they learn you're good for it, they keep coming back begging for more. I rather wish the club paid the dancers so that a tip was just a tip (for being especially nice or a good performer). I think the dancers might relax and enjoy themselves more if they knew they were getting paid and it was just about the fun and freedom of dancing naked and showing off their hot bodies. If the tips were just a bonus, not their bread & butter, then they could choose for themselves how hard to work the crowd. As a customer I could enjoy it more if I could sit back, have a drink, enjoy the show, and not feel like I had to fork over dollar bills every few minutes to keep the show going.

This is the only club with nude dancers I've been to, so I'm curious how it differs from other such clubs.

There's a local bar here called Boardwalk which featuers strippers. A friend worked there and explained that he made okay money dancing there, but it was hooking up with fellows for "companionship" that really made him money. When it was located in Miami, that place was sleazy as hell and the dancers did just about anything and everything when they got off the platform.

Theres another bar called Cupids up in Palm Beach where the guys go totally nude. Been there a few times, but the pressure to tip was intense. Totally turned me off going back there.

I was never a stripper, but I did win an amateur strip contest back when I was 21. The dancing part of stripping I would love. Up on stage, everyone looking at you. The getting touched by people giving me tips part...not so hot.

I did it for a year and a half a long, long time ago. I loved it. I made between 2 and 5 grand a week depending on the time of year. I also got all the pussy I wanted. Still, I knew I was passing time that I needed to be in school. So once my truck was paid for and I had a good deal saved up, I quit and went back to school. Still it was some great memories.

I have done some bacholarette parties here and there over the years, but never went back to it full time.

I assume that the business has changed on the male side the same as the female places that I've been to. It's completely different now. It's little more than thinly veiled prostitution. Back when I did it, there was just the teasing thing. Don't get me wrong, I got head and I got laid, but that was by picking out the hottest woman in there that wanted me and not for money.

The biggest downside was that people think you must be stupid. I wasn't. It was just a hell of a lot of fun, and really good money.

Was it good money because the club paid you well, or did you just go really well in tips? Did all the guys who danced there make good money, or just the most popular guys?

I don't see how anyone with a brain could call someone making $100K-$250K/year cash stupid, not to mention all the pussy you wanted.

That's more than 94%? of the people in the US make and all the pussy you want puts you in the 99.99%+ bracket.

I am not sure what career could be better than that!
