I'm just curious if anyone has ever worn one of these for running or any type of activity at all, and if so what are your thought, why do you wear it? How does it feel? Etc?
Since I know not many of you probably know what it is here is the definition:
Kynodesme (dog leash)
A leather strip (a string around the foreskin akroposthion ) binding the penis (called by the Athenians kyon or dog). Used for example by athletes who running nude can be painful. An image of an athlete with a kynodesme
Here are a few websites that explain it further and have some pics:
Link 1: Peter's Nudist Pages - Nude Lifestyle - Kynodesme
Link 2:The Ideal Prepuce in Ancient Greece and Rome
Link 3:The Kynodesme
Quote from Link 1:
It served several purposes, for what appears to be a variety of mixed reasons. For the athletes, it restrained the penis and stopped it flopping about, which the ancient Greece apparently found this preferable.
If addition to offering all the above advantages to the ancient Greeks, there was still one further attribute that it offered. The Greek standard of modesty held that the foreskin should cover the glans. Visible glans in an uncircumcised man was taken as evidence of sexual arousal and was thus considered indecent within the arena. Many athletes therefore wore the kynodesme. Its strand of string looped around the foreskin, closing it tightly over the glans, prevented mishaps,. The Greek code of genital etiquette obviously places circumcised Jews at an embarrassing disadvantage in the public baths, wrestling matches, and competitive games.
It is interesting to note that The Nilotic tribes of Africa also considered the glans to be offensive. It's interesting that such widely separated cultures should have such similar values.
I already knew that the Greeks had a thing about seeing the glans of the penis, but I didn't know that they were so absolutely serious about it.
Could this be part of the reason why Americans are so afraid of nudity? Because of the fact that the majority of men have their glans permanently on display, due to our culture of circumcision.
Note:
I just want to say that I don't want this to become a circumcision thread, this is a thread about the kynodesme not circumcision.
If anyone has ever worn one of these or has any thoughts it would be great to hear from you, and if you have worn one and wish to post pics that would be great.
