So, for a long time now I've been thinking about leaving London and moving somewhere else in the UK.

Unfortunately, as a single gay man who needs good access to London for work, my options are.... limited.

I've been considering Brighton - pretty gay place, hour to London by train and you get the sea; all fantastic.... or atleast, so I thought until I did some research.

Came across numerous comment threads about people having made the move and hating it. Apparently Brighton has a huge homeless problem, loads of issues with heroin, issues with drunk, annoying uni kids, crime and general safety issues, and more....

Really hoping to get some input from someone who actually lives there.

Is moving worth it? Are these issues mentioned above accurate?

I'd be perfectly happy to stay in London, but I'd like to explore my options a bit.

Any comments/thoughts would be appreciated :)

I lived there for a year and did the whole commute to London for work, this was 5 years ago and it was £500 a month in travel costs. Rent isn't that much cheaper but it depends where you live. Anywhere near the station has London prices for that reason. Yes Brighton has a large gay community but if you are moving from London, you would be downsizing. I have friends down in Brighton but I found when living there, everyone knew ya business before you've done it yourself. The best parts are of course Pride and summer. Summer in Brighton is amazing when the sun comes out anyway. The nudest beach is a must, there is always something look at down at that beach but if you wanted a bit of action, there is Telescombe beach about 10 mins away.

Ohh and you do get used to the seagull noise every bloody morning.

I tried it and it didn't work for me, but it might for you. try it, London will always be here if you want to come back
