Thumper_10x7_CA: Thanks for the info Speedo! All I have is a home teach yourself banjo book and video. I like being able to go at my own pace but my dang fingers don't like to get those chords! UGH But practice makes perfect...

I used to sing also, 2nd Tenor, but haven't been in an organized group in years! I've thought about auditioning for the Gay Men's Chorus of LA but that seems so cliche. It certainly would be a switch from my last 2 gigs. 4 years at the Crystal Cathedral (yes THE Crystal Cathedral from TV :D ) and Disneyland.

drambone: mine is a medicore Saga - Korean copy of a Gibson 335. It's in good shape though and sounds excellent through my Polytone amp. You have quite the collection there!

altoclef1979: Well, here it is....my very first post! After lurking as a guest for about a year, I've finally decided to join up. I absolutely love this site! This thread definitely pushed me ;) I just couldn't help myself. Music runs my life!

I am a student finishing my BA here in OH. My major instruments are viola and violin, but I have dabbled with acoustic and electric bass (when someone was in need and willing to write a check) on several occasions. I won tenure with a semi-pro orchestra at 20 (their youngest contracted member in history) and have been using that for support while finishing school. In addition, I play in a small chamber orchestra that just secured a contract with the Telarc label for a series of three nationally distributed recordings. Aside from that mess, I'm also a singer (lyric baritone) who has done Equity musical theatre work in the past.

Since I left my last teacher, I have been performing on a 1975 Thomas Fawick viola (Fawick was a 20th century engineer who invented four door cars and the rubber grip for golf clubs -- also an avid instrument collector) with a beautiful John Norwood Lee bow that came through Bein & Fushi (which goes up in value every time I check -- thank GOD!). My violin is a wonderful German made factory instrument circa. 1920's in absolutely mint condition. Dealers turn their noses up, but every violinist that plays it falls in love! It's definitely a workhorse!

And with that, I'll stop boring everyone!

It's great to be here! ;D

How invigorating to have such a talented musician among us, altoclef. I'm baritone in Memphis Symphony Chorus and church choir, but my son outshines me in the musical field. He has one CD out of music he wrote, plays, sings and recorded in his digital studio. He's lead guitar. I'm looking forward to reading more of your postings, my friend.

bblumbee: I am an accomplished pianist (played concert piano in high school and college). Fluent with the clarinet and flute. I, too, am a vocalist. I have over a three octative range but mostly sing alto, but am able to do very well with second soprano and can hold my own with first sopranos as well. :)

bblumbee:

Are you married and do you have children. I'm interested b/c I think talented people should have tons of children to inherit the genes. I admire you!

drambone: We are such an interesting bunch here! I wish I could do the jazz thing full-time but as I am not living in a big city, I play whenever I can -- which never is enough!

I play an interesting mix of jazz originals and standards. I live for this stuff and I am, well, made of music!

:D

You and my son should get together, drambone. He loves jazz and has a touch of it in his CD, "Old School".
Since you're made of music, I know you're put together well!
