I think that your point of view is a bit extremist, and definitely out of touch. Unsurprisingly, most comments of this type seem to come from the USA... the land were homosexuality is still illegal in some states, were they have given and taken back their rights to mary, and also where the death penalty still exists.
Wael Kfoury is lebanese; homosexuality is not something to parade in Lebanon but is still fairly common. As for the others, they are all from the Gulf, where homosexuality is very common (between closed doors) and known by society and just ignored. Before passing any type of judgement on other countries, I would look and criticise your own country first.
Since you've taken this opportunity to do some USA-bashing, the object of your criticism was really not that far off. The vast majority of Arab countries DO have severe penalties for those convicted of homosexuality- and they certainly do not get any of the benefits of marriage with their partners. Also, please do more research next time, before you do USA-bashing. Homosexuality is not illegal in ANY state- anti sodomy laws were ruled unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court in Lawrence v. Texas in 2003. As I see that your location is London, I would remind you that the UK does not have full marriage rights either, as opposed to several US states plus the the capital- Massachusetts, Vermont, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Washington, DC. So please, quit looking down your nose at the "hicks" in the United States.
