Are air fryers good at frying?

I like mine.

I use them to roast tinned chickpeas.

It's good for chips and roasted root veggies without having heat up an standard sized oven.
It doesn't get my kitchen hotter than it already is in Summer.

I’ve wondered about investing in one. I’d like to do chips without oil.

Get one with the highest wattage you can get.

If you cut corners and buy one of the cheaper, under powered ones you'll be disappointed
with the results.

I've only used mine for chips, but they turn out fantastic. I got it a few years ago now because I was worried about the oil they use on frozen chips.

I tried making sweet potato fries but they didn't turn out well (might be an issue of my skills rather than the air fryer!)

They are very good.
You have to stick to the time recommended though. I use a stopwatch.
Makes very succulent salmon, pork and lamb chops and steaks.

I have learned much of this counter appliance known as Air Fryer. Pinterest has me gagging over the InstaPot. So many recipes. So much good food.

Does anyone have any experience with an InstaPot?

They need to be par boiled first because sweet potato are a lot harder than Irish potatoes and they burn on the outside because of the sugar content before they're full soft in the middle.
A tiny spritz of oil stops them from sticking together one the sugars start caramelise.

I have experience of being completely sucked in by the infomercial, buying said instapot and saying every Monday that I am going to learn to use it *next* weekend. For two years.

They look great on the advert though lol

While I think I might get use of it I'm always worried about counter space. The last small appliance we got was an Instant Pot, which is huge! I love it and use it often. But we don't have the counter space to keep it out; so we lug it out of the pantry when needed. We'd probably use it even more if it was always available.

Cooks Illustrated says that the Instant Pot cooks at a lower temperature that most types of cookers. Do your home work before buying as recipes (cooking time) can vary cookers.
