It's not a violation if you don't want it to be in retrospect, in the case of any sort of trauma. But It Was Still Illegal.

And if it happens today, it remains illegal and the young person can rationalize all they like without changing that fact. Things which happened to me as a child which I cannot clearly recall but which I have been told about, as well as things which I do recall and thought were odd at the time, still have their effect upon me as an almost-old lady.

However I do not perpetuate the cycle if I can help it. I do not abuse children or teens, and neither am I a bully, at least deliberately not.

You do not say if this ancient acquaintance of yours was also a pedophile or whether he was simply recounting that he had known one long ago.

I think this question is a lot more interesting if you make a distinction between pedophiles and child rapists. I'm sure there are some people who aren't irredeemable psychopaths who have this paraphilia and probably don't benefit from being made to feel shittier than they already feel. Even if you think non-rapist pedophiles are scum too, I think the equivocation at least trivializes child rape a little.

I suspect since it's mostly the psychopaths we're familiar with (how many people would admit pedophilia if they lacked an urge to abuse?) I doubt we'll ever know the origins of non-abusive pedophilia, or how common it is, or how likely it is to become abusive.

Stomach-wrenching subject either way.

From my personal pov, pedophilia is like cancer, its a (i wont really call it a disease) behaviour/type of personality that developed due to varying factors derived from (possibly) genetics and environmental factors. There is also the human desire for youth (fountain of youth), the whole notion of being with someone younger makes one feel more youthful. And i dont mean this to be a cliche but media and todays society also contributed to it. We dress kids in ways thatd portray them to be much older than they really are by altering their appearance (ie: skanky clothing and make up). i know this seems rather black and white but i partially lean to this theory.

Interesting topic. I was "molested" as a child by an uncle. My parents would leave me at my grandparents house when they needed some time off. My single uncle lived with my grandparents and my mom, believe it or not, would say go climb up in bed with uncle XXX. I did and one time I woke up to him reaching into my underwear. I was about 10 or so, I think. It happened every time I went over there and developed further as I got older until we were having full out sex. It also happened to my cousin who is a year younger than me.

I got over it (sort of) as I started dating girls at around 13 years old and then playing with boys when I was around 15 or so.

I clearly remember enjoying sucking his cock. Looking at its size and admiring it.

Anyway, I seem to be living a fairly normal life now. I don't hold my uncle in contempt as my cousin does. He blames every failure in his life to those days when he was being molested. Today he's broke and told me he is going to the uncle to get money from him "or else". I said it was stupid and said why now - because you're broke and need money, you want to ruin the guy.

I am not interested in kids. Those events in my childhood didn't shape my sexual attraction although I am attracted to younger guys (25ish is the youngest I'll go just from a maturity angle). I confess I look at their bodies at the pool but NEVER EVER would think to have any physical contact with even a teenager. My ex and I met with he was 21 and that put me off tremendously. We were friends for months before anything happened (he pursued me non stop) and I never thought that I'd be partnered with a young man like this but his maturity was refreshing. His lack of maturity in other areas however led to us breaking up.

All of us find little children beautiful. Not all of us take naked photos of them, with or without the permission of their parents. And even fewer of us engage in genital contact with them, thank goodness for the children.

Interesting post on the 'definition of homosexual sex' thread about the traditional 'use' of young boys in Islamic societies. I keep getting drawn back to this thread. I've worked a lot in this area and know that there is no definitive answer to this question.

First of all - pedophilia does not describe everyone who commits sexual abuse against children; pedophilia only describes those who have a preferential sexual orientation towards those under the age of 14 and not all pedophiles commit crimes against children. Sexual offenders or child molestors are those who do commit crimes and they are basically divided into two categories: situational and preferential. Pedophiles would fit into the preferential group, while situational offenders tend to have and prefer relationships with other adults.

Violent pedophiles or pedophiles who view themselves as overgrown children/peers of children can be very dangerous. But the situational offender is also extremely dangerous. This is the person who marries your sister, or lives next door or coaches your son's soccer team. This is the guy who, when under stress and under the right set of circumstances, molests.

Why? It used to be thought that the offender had to have been the victim of sexual abuse himself (and most offenders are male), but most sexual abuse survivors do not grow up and abuse others. Current thinking seems to lead towards cognitive distortion - rationalizing the sexualization of children, blaming the victim, seizing opportunities, use of drugs and alcohol to lower inhibitions.

I don't know. The experts don't know. All I know is that when I see "barely legal" web sites and see men ogling junior high girls on the street - I cringe.

Yes, I explored this question in an old thread and put the question out to straight guys as to why there is this sexual facination with pubescent teens. Most denied it exists or is overblown but the porn marketplace speaks otherwise.
