Ok,not a new topic. But surely the time has long since come, to put this circus out of its misery....A joke is a joke and to carry it much further is going to reflect badly on the US (as a couple of my American chums already believe).....Why is this sort of stuff tolerated??..

My best guess is escapism. Everyone has drama in their lives, but the staging and edits of reality TV shows, such as any K branded programming, make their day in and day out existences look infinitely more exciting and convoluted than whatever an individual has going on in their own life at any given time. Basically, it comes down to watching a train wreck and being thankful to have no part in it. Perhaps a bit of a contributing factor in this embarrassing phenomenon is misguided trying to live vicariously through others by some viewers. It persists because people watch, so theirs and like shows get ratings. I do not watch and am disgusted by the industry they have become, for the record.

So panda bear is okay with all other of the K ilk? Just checking. Their mother is pretty much their pimp, but anyway. I miss seeing you around and have been asking about you in chat!
I like the fat one, she is cute!
But, all in all, I hate and I don`t watch realities.
Oh babe, Love you too!
I haven`t seen you in ages. I guess our chatting time differs now. :frown1:

Agreed. But how can any of this equate with being, in ANY sense, a REALITY show? There's nothing real about it...not when you have four cameras pointing at you and twenty crew and technitions over your shoulder, capturing what is supposed to be an intimate conversation.
The entire thing is in new league of ridiculousness and surely the joke is on us (or at least those who watch this kinda crapola?!)

You caught me editing. Boo on me looking illiterate! That's one thing I try to keep up appearances with and take pride in, chat notwithstanding because I don't type nearly as fast as I think! And a reason I don't post much either. I'd say maybe someday I'll catch up to you, but by then you'd be leaps and bounds ahead. Got to have something to aspire to! LOL.

Since irony and sarcasm are among my 2 best senses, I actually thought about being Khloe for Halloween. Will probably go as JWoww from Jersey Shore instead, with my short, swarthy friend as Snooki. :biggrin1:

And the not crossing paths much? I was offsite for nearly 5 months! My computer met its demise. No computer at home makes TCC go something something!

Reality in name only. False advertising. Labels lie sometimes, and deception is an industry in and of itself. Note I did say staging and edits.

Well, there's reality shows like that in most countries. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Things like re-electing Bush, your segregation and the shady operations of the U.S Army are what really damage Americas image over here. Disgusting things like medias coverage of politics, being nothing about politics and all about "scandals", are spreading here as well.

The fact that you elected Obama gave me some hope about the U.S, before that it was pretty much a big joke. Let's just hope you let him stick around to turn things straight for a country with so much potential. Sorry if I'm throwing a lot of hate around here, I just don't think the Kardashians should be your main concern on this subject. :)

In terms of "reasons to hate America", the Kardashians and whatever it is they do, are so far down the list. Really.

I tend to agree. I love the US and have loved every visit I've had there. I think that most countries (excepting third world etc.) understand reality TV and the embarrassment that the wealthy can present - whether they are on TV or not.

The US isn't judged on the Kardashians. What surprises me is that people seem to care more about who politicians sleep with rather than the fact that people don't have health care. We had a long term Prime Minister who, single, slept with anyone that moved! When married, his wife took off and went on tour with the Rolling Stones. It made the news, but no one impeached him over it.

As an outsider, I don't necessarily know all the details of what the citizens of the US believe. I only see the outline. Obama was the the best thing to happen to the US in terms of the outsider looking in. It may not be true. I don't live there. But the Kardashians? They don't even come into play in forming an opinion about the US.

My two cents. Which is not meant to represent the same two cents as other Canadians! :biggrin1:

What I can never understand is how people like the K family, the Jersey shore group, Paris Hilton etc can become so called "stars" in the first place. I don't know if it's an American thing (though I do know there are a lot of similar "star" in Britain too"

The whole thing boggles my mind. These people have accomplished nothing.

Are they themselves doing it? No. Theyre on the air because people watch it, they are merely a representation of how shallow and materialistic our culture is. The ONLY difference between their lives and our lives is when they go out to dinner theyre eating $300 steaks. They dont have any talents other than being rich and obviously broke ass americans love watching rich people do the same shit we do ie drink, party, argue.

I doubt it. I know the name and hear it in the background here and there, but I don't think they're as well known or as popular as some people think they are.

I'm a regular TV junkie and I couldn't pick Kim Kardashian out of a police lineup.

american celebrity culture and the way in which the world views it was pretty much wrecked during the reagan administration.... people are fascinated by it because it's not 'real' life to most of us, and so it's able to be portrayed in contexts such as reality television because the people sitting around watching it have no connection to it at all other than the fact that it's totally NOT reality.... folks like the kardashians and the jersey shore crew are simply capitalizing on it as much as they can before the fad ends and society moves on to something bigger, better, and more important....

When you give it attention ,you give it power. I couldn't care less about these people.

well put.... i have never seen a show about a kardashian, a snooki, a dance mom, a big brother, a hill, a bachelor(ette), a housewife, or any of that crap EVER in my life.... i would never support that crap on the airwaves by watching it, and i'm so glad i opted for the internet over cable television.... now i watch what i want, when i want....
