i don't wrap them in cotton wool but i am a cautious parent. i know first hand what can happen to the unwary young. and i know that bad things have always happened but they were just not talked about in the past.
i try to watch them from a distance rather than hold their hands...from a young age i've sent them to the checkout alone, made them buy their bus tickets, etc. they go to the shops if they promise to stick together.
those without kids have no idea how hard it is to not be there to protect them 24/7. nature is cunning and maternal feelings can be stronger than basic bodily needs.
