One of the things I admit I love is spooning with the wife throughout the night. 99.99% of the time, I am the one holding her (the Big Spoon) because I like the feeling that I'm being protective and she likes the feeling of being held. There is also the practical issue that she is more comfortable laying on the side facing away from me and will spend most of the night sleeping that way.
However, I also admit of the rare times I am the Little Spoon I kind of enjoy it and the feeling she is somehow saying non-verbally that she will take care of me. In a way I wish she would do this a little more often, but am too embarrassed to come straight out and ask.
Maybe one of the reasons is that it is assumed (from what I read at least) that the man should always feel like he's taking care of the woman and to be the Little Spoon is to take a submissive, feminine role. Maybe it's this unspoken stigma or maybe it's just for the reasons above, but still...
So the question is how to you usually spoon and do you always take the position of the Little Spoon or do sometimes assume the Big Spoon and either way, why? Is it due to any gender role expectation or just simply a matter of comfort and sleeping position? And why do think perhaps most women take the role of the Little Spoon? Is that due to gender assumptions or something else? And would you think any different of a man that prefers the comfort of being passively held by his partner?
