I am not.

If that’s the worst thing you can call me, then let me strap on my armour, shield and sword. :joy:

I got called an SJW yesterday because I spoke up in a thread against baiting. The guy told me I needed to find a new mother, whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean. I don’t think he actually had one, otherwise maybe he’d understand that lying to someone to get nudes is wrong. I didn’t think that was just my opinion -I think most people would agree that lying is generally wrong. There’s a whole thread here about how important truth is.

I have a few issues that are important to me. Women and children’s issues, LGBTQ+ issues, Indigenous issues, addictions, family violence, etc. I tend to care about human related problems. I don’t just beak off about these things on the internet, these are things I actually work at and affect my every day life.

So the term Social Justice Warrior is meant to demean and put down anyone who tries to speak up for anything that’s meaningful to them. It’s dismissive. It’s usually said by losers with no good argument. Btw, they also use the term ‘white knight’ and some of them like to use ‘Chad’ or ‘Stacey’, too.

Well, fuck that shit. No one is going to shut me down.

Are you insulted by those terms?

Wow, accusing me of being conscious of the needs and right of others? man, you burned me, bro.

I am happy to slap on my SJW armor and leap headfirst into the fray.

Also, what is this bullshit with calling basic human decency and respect political correctness?

I know. I just can’t take it seriously as an insult. Consider the source. They are completely out of ammo.

Ha, nope.

You use the term ''Social Justice Warrior" and you show your ass. I know EXACTLY how inadequate you are and where you spend your (considerable) time online. You just lost, without anyone else needing to say a word.

As for "white knight"? Lol. Someone unfuckable is vomiting their jealousy of someone fuckable for all to see. They might as well paint a scarlet 'U' on their own forehead.

These guys should get a uniform.

I'm *still* stumped by the "find a new mother" guy. What? Seriously - what?

I need to stop trying to find meaning and accept the guy was just a nonsensical fucking tool.

I’m proud to want social justice for everyone. Why the fuck wouldn’t I be? How can someone believe it is demeaning to stand up for the rights of the oppressed and down-trodden?! To want equality and civility and respect for all?

Totally unfuckable. Eww. I mean, if you think it’s attractive to be someone with the attitude of a Neanderthal...well, sure, club me. But I don’t roll that way. I haven’t even watched the Flintstones in 25 years.

And, yeah. Still baffled by the mother thing. Weirdo.

I'm quite new here but jumping in anyway - I'm happy to be referred to as a politically correct, SJW bleeding-heart-liberal snowflake.
Anything that distances me from the kind of people that use those terms as insults is fine by me. To me they just mean "Someone who actually cares about people".

We should be proud of that. I mean, if I don’t do it - who will? I don’t wait for someone else to step up, I do it. Every act means something.

We need more Social Justice Warriors, not less.

Maybe that might speed up the process of us all actually learning to behave like normal people, as opposed to being sociopaths whenever online.
So true. @MickeyLee made a comment in another thread saying something about two kinds of people on the internet - those who behave like they’re interacting with real people and those that don’t. If you behave like you’re talking to real people, hopefully you won’t be a sociopath. Unless you are. And then I worry.

I saw this show once, where a reporter found out who was behind some trolling posts online (usually politically or racially charged) and confronted that person. Suddenly, when they were face to face, the trolls were much more open and debated their position (although most of us would still disagree with that position) like actual adults.

So online social behaviour makes some of us lose some of those social norms, which actually makes us able to function together in modern society.

Here, in Denmark, many newspaper requires that you register to comment on their articles through a central database, where you get your real identity confirmed through your Social Security number. So no user names and anonymity. Stand up for what you write. That has taken the edge out of the worst trolls and actually heightened the debate.

Not even vaguely. I consider it a form of compliment, albeit an unintended one.

We all live in a society, and justice is a good thing. And the warrior part is just shorthand for activist, which is highly praiseworthy, just it gives me too much credit as I don't expend enough energy to be a warrior.

I saw a similar show where trolls had to confront their targets - for the most part, seeing their target as a human being changed the dynamic significantly.

I think for any people, the anonymity of the internet allows them to give up those social norms. In some ways it allows for freer discussion, but in other ways it permits such bad behaviour that it makes one wonder what kind of darkness really lives in the hearts of others.

This site has given me pause about men - I’ve seen such hatred toward women. Then again, I’ve seen such good men step forward and confirm that indeed not all men feel that way.

In the thread I mentioned yesterday, one of the men said that gay men are not as hurt as women by catfishing. I know this statement isn’t true. But what a bold statement to make on behalf of a whole segment of people. If I was a troll, could that not give me permission to catfish/bait gay men thinking that they couldn’t be hurt?

Not much shocks me here anymore but that kinda did. The guy was cold as ice. Zero empathy. Writing cat-fishing off because he perceived less social stigma for men. What about the lack of consent? The betrayal of trust? The feeling of humiliation for being tricked?

That thread was full of piranhas

The term SJW fits onto a person, that hystericaly fights for an issue, that is blown out of proportion, so much that they involve and annoy other people that have no stake in it.

Best example are people who want to be called a ridiculous gender pronoun raging at others when they just call them what they see on first sight.
I will always call a woman a woman and a man a man if I don't know them. If they rage in response and demand I call them -Xir Pan yada yada- then I would consider telling them to "fuck off SJW" if I had a bad day.

But the whole SJW thing is blown out of proportion so much that it now gets applied to anyone that has a viable point about an injustice. As always the truth is somewhere in the middle.

This happens mostly in America where people seem to be either annoyingly backwards ultra conservative or annoyingly "woke" progressive.

Thanks for sharing your insight, straight white man.

I wish you had the compassion to understand that those of us who are oppressed minorities face daily struggles and we share our struggles amongst our allies.

If you can’t have the empathy to think beyond something you have a personal stake in, go fuck yourself, basically.

Yeah, well if if that’s the best insult a person has, it’s pretty sad.

Gender pronouns are important to people. I see your point when you can’t tell on first sight. Still if your go-to is SJW, you might want to re-think it. Or not. Totally up to you. It’s just I know people who have been mis-labeled. It’s generally not pansexual, but “he” and “she” stuff. There’s a lot of pain behind that anger. It’s their life and just another issue on a bad day to you.

Again, it’s totally up to you. “Woke” is another word that doesn’t bother me. Who cares? Or progressive. Whatever. They’re overused. But if that’s the best someone has to insult me,bring it on. Also, snowflakes are super pretty.

In most cases..sure, especially if I know they/them. If you are a friend you'll have to deal with some jokes like other friends who have funny names or a big nose though.
I have a feeling that's not even possible with some of the enraged "SJW's". That's when the other popular word "snowflake" might apply? What me and my friends threw at each other growing up lol. Made us get over our our "flaws".

Thanks for sharing your insight, straight white man.

Sure I faced no struggles ever just by the virtue of being straight and white. *rolleyes*.
Where is my million? Where is my health? Where is my cheap flat? Why did my boss hate me? Is it cause I'm white and straight? Must be!!!!

You serious? You are gay in London lol. *rolleyes*
I live in Frankfurt germany and no one has a problem here just by being gay or a minority. Try being gay in Teheran or any other muslim country. You won't get just rolleyes but be stoned to death.
Just be a human in first place. You have the freedom to in London, LA or Berlin. Actually most gays socialize much easier around here and if you are an exotic minority people have more interest in you.(like ME!)

In light of the real struggles of gays around the world, where I have LOTS OF EMPHATY your tiny struggles are not worth making it an issue to annoy others about. It's pathetic. If some asshole calls you a fag in London, yeah whatever. Get over it.

I partied with the most flamboyant gays and trannies(don't get offended) here who take jokes about their gayness lightly. But close minded jerks and tense assholes like you I rather avoid.. not cause you are gay but cause of your personality.
