You are much more tolerant of various foods than i am. Im so picky next to a normal person. I don't feel satisfied if i dont have some meat pretty often. I've tried to do the vegetarian thing but i can't get full or stay full long enough, i start to feel starved. I find it to be a pain to be eating that often to keep my blood sugar up when i live on veggies and fruits. There has to be a way to stay satisfied longer.

The magic pill for my son and me was the fish oil supplement. It cut into my son's craving for sweets and other carbs significantly. For me it was a combination of yogurt and brewers yeast as well. Eating more fiber wasn't our problem as we eat lots of fresh fruit and only whole grains. But extra bulk can rob you of trace nutrients! It's a balancing act.

The nutritionist told him, no forbidden foods but only one portion of each at a time, and always smaller than the palm of your hand. But his hands are HUGE! He was still eating too much until the supplements.

Even when i took a UK dress size 8 that still happened...it's called having boobs..

Boobs will do it to you. Even my own Dad said something at Christmas about 3 years ago. He tried not to be rude, but basically said that I was getting heavier. Mum piped in and said "it's the boobs, dear." Seriously! I work out every single day. I put on over 20 pounds after my divorce and struggled for years to get them off. Now I'm constantly on the defense.

Nope - within the "normal" limits (21.9)

21.5 here! I win

Still I sometimes think I'm a bit too chubby in certain areas. Probably media brainwashing.

If anyone wants to lose weight or get in shape in general then just remember:

Diet - 3 meals a day - try not to snack
Exercise - at least every other day

Drink a lot of tea as well

I'm overweight, but it's because I'm mostly living tissue over a metal endoskeleton. I feel neither pity nor remorse.

Wow! How can I get one of those metal endoskeletons for my living tissue?

Chicks dig fat guys. It's freakin' awesome.

I guess "big" wins over average again... sigh.

I am overweight (I am not Jabba the Hutt though) but I am happy. I like that I have weight on me.

I have spent most of my teens up to my mid-thirties being skinny. I have high school classmates that can vouch for what I say is true. I hated it. I suffered from hypermetabolism.

Now that I am older...people have more of a problem with my weight gain than I do.

You are a handsome guy Visi. Don't let anyone tell you any differently.

Is it weird that you talking about all sorts of wobbles gives me a raging boner?

I need to lose 40 pounds to be happy with my weight. I have PCOS which makes me incredibly hungry, even after I've had enough. Because I've recently been diagnosed as diabetic, I'll have a nutritionist soon, and that should help. The last time I was this overweight, weight watchers really helped.

The "low carb" regimens are very close to the recommended diabetic menus.

Eliminating refined sugars, Eating all foods during meal time and none in between (beverages only) really have an impact on the insulin levels in the body, the greater of which causes the body to store fat rather than letting it pass through or get used up.

There are a few things that Dr. Atkins was right about. But not everything.

Ellie, as long as we do the "right" things, our body eventually will find it's own natural equilibrium. Try not to let the comments bother you, since you KNOW it is a journey. No matter what we do, there will always be comments, so we have to be happy with ourselves in the long run.

BMI doesn't take into account athletic builds or bodybuilders. According to them...I'm morbidly obese. Yah...I don't think so. Chart's like these are for the avg. person. If you REALLY want to know the correct numbers, see a physician.

I agree that the BMI is a generalization and not an accurate measure. I am categorized as obese as well.

I have played with that calculator a little and have finally confirmed what I've always known: I am not too fat...I am too short. Now, if I was 6'2"....

my CURRENT weight puts me at the high end of "just right"... (24.8)
Yet... I've got the damned pot belly back (30 pound gain since I started working again)

The BMI INDEX is flawed.
Works well if you've got an average frame.. and that's it.

Bodybuilders are generally considered "overweight"

Me, myself, I'd like to have more muscle mass, and less fat mass
but, damnit, I'm too lazy

Me too! Actually, it's about 5'8" for me. And I would prefer the stretch to be in my legs. Oh! How I could waltz around the ballroom on legs 5" longer.... *sigh*

I consider myself to be a work in progress and have been slowly moving towards getting into better shape. My biggest concern has been my breasts as it seems in the past, that was always the first place I'd lose from and I want to keep my girls! Thus I have been making small changes to my diet (mostly vegetarian to begin with), drinking more water (usually with lemon), walking more and upping my yoga & Pilates to 5 days a week. So far, so good.

I've found kick boxing is a great way to exercise - my breasts are not in the way and I haven't lost an ounce up there...

The BMI chart is flawed and doesn't take into account muscle density and different frames. According to the BMI chart I am underweight, but I have a very small frame, thin hipped. I have a lot of friends who are my height and compared to them my torso is small and the width of my shoulders thinner than normal.

I say, ignore the BMI chart and the scale. Use the mirror. Even better, use photos!
