very interesting! someone described mine as the "puffy" kind once, and looking at the pictures, i guess i'd agree. it's not as "flat" as the ones shown, but they're certainly soft and puffy, i guess.

mine also have the bumps, though not as prominently. i notice that when they get hard/stimulated/it's brick titty out everything becomes more defined, though, including the surrounding bumps.

my colouring also fades out, and i've never had children (21 years old, also, incase anyone was wondering...) so i'm not sure it has much relation to do with that. my nipples on the edges always had that 'gradient' effect, even in puberty.

I've seen that site before and found it very interesting, as adult women a lot of us don't get to see a lot of other 'normal' female breasts, we see porn stars/film stars, we might see women on sites like this who may not represent the norm (I think it's a fair assumption that women who post naked photos might, on the whole, feel they have breasts worth showing off) but we don't get to see how very varied the real life boobie is.

I also don't have any discernable Montgomery Glands Gillette, but for the sake of science I'm going to fling my nipple under a microscope later and count the tidgy little buggers ;-)

I had been wondering about the bumps on the areola I keep seeing in breast pics. They puzzled me because I don't have 'em (the bumps, that is).

So, googling happily along I found my answer (Montgomery glands) along with an impressive array of nipple and areola types.

I do have one question that my google search hasn't turned up an answer for. Some of the areolas that I've seen have uneven colouring where the pigment fades out gradually or can look like they were bleached in places. Is this something related to breast feeding (some of those little suckers can be aggressive and damaged tissue doesn't always heal it's original colour) or is this just another natural variation?

well, you're in luck! The site says the glands aren't used for anything much. So I would say don't worry about it. As far as the fading....mine sorta do that. Its not a direct circle....it sorta fades out but nobody can tell unless they were really up on it like if they were sucking them.

Great thread. It brings to mind another question about guys' vs. girls' nipples...I know some guys who have a third nipple. It's on the areola and usually isn't very noticeable...I'm not sure how common it is but I've known at least 3 guys who had one. (I figure that's some weird skew in stats, though.) yeah me too....i have to say that just because she may have big tits, she may still have small areola and nipples. I had a girlfriend who was 46 DD and while her areolas were huge (4" in diameter) her nipples were the size of the "clicker" on a ball point pen.

If there is one kind of diversity I don't like, it is girls with hairy nips. That shit is gross! And the worse part is how do you tell the girl to shave? I mean, it should be common sense. I even remember one girl I was like "have you every considered shaving areas below your face?" and she was like "no, I would never do that!" I'm hairy as shit too, but at least I have the decency to shave. I'm sure there are some guys that like hairy nips, but I've never met any. It's better to be on the safe side and shave.

I suppose it is possible for it to be caused by damaged in some, but it is another naturally occurring variation. I remember a girl complaining to me about hers in high school. I never saw them, but that is exactly how she described her areolae.

I have huge areolas...and big nipples. I do have the montgomery glands...I have somewhat bumpy nipples which got worse when I was preggo. Also...my nipples got darker, along with my pussy, ass and underarms...and the skin around all that. It looks incredibly funny now, and my nipples have returned back to their original color...although they were splotchy for quite a while.

There's something about the hormones during pregnancy that darkens soft tissue; My child is also biracial, so I wonder if the pigment he developed while in my tummy somehow was increased in me as well. Who knows....

All I know is my ass looks weird now...lol.

Ohhh...and if my memory is correct, the glands are to help with lubrication during breastfeeding. That hurts like hell...seriously....sooooo weird.

I don't think you need to call the guy a fool. He said hairy nipples on a woman are a turn off for him.....and you know what, I agree with him.

Just because they may be BORN that way, doesn't mean that they can't try to make themselves more attractive by shaving. Velvet, you were in all likelihood "born" with the propensity to grow hair on your legs.....do you not shave them because the genetic lottery did not bestow upon you the gift of never growing hair on your legs?

Truth is, we ALL do things to make ourselves more attractive to the opposite sex (and in some case the same sex). And thank God for that.

I will clarify. The pics are one thing, but in real life its another. I was with this older women, I guess from the old school, and she had hairy nips. I can forgive a hairy bush. Not my fav, but still doable. It is still "womanly". But hairy nips, Im sorry.
