It seems that most women in porn now shave their pubic hair. Is there a trend today for women to shave all body hair? I've noticed in photos that Beyance doesn't shave her pits. She looks very sexy with her hairy pits! Maybe she will start a new trend.

Hair there is sort of the pits *har har* because it doesn't work with my summer wardrobe. I don't mind a bit of stubble or even fuzz, but I know other people my age, especially guys would go "OMG that's gross!", so I invoke the scorched earth policy.

Need to get on a reality show based around wilderness survival so I have an excuse to let my natural self out, BO and all

Do you understand what a double standard is? The fact that men are attracted to smooth pits on a woman yet do not shave themselves is WHY it is a double standard!

Indeed. If a man shaves anything besides his chin and tries to date me, he'd better be a competitive swimmer. I like hair on humans.
Well, I'll make an exception for a sexy person with alopecia. Otherwise I'd be a bigot. But damn, I cordially hate stubble!

I love a thick pubic bush on a woman. Women have hair, prepubescents don't. I guess it's a generational thing. And I find armpit hair on a woman to be sexy even though it is taboo in America.

That's not a double standard. Under your logic, women shouldn't grow their hair long, women should never shave the hair above their lips and below their nose, women shouldn't wear makeup, etc, because that's all just a "nasty double standard" because men don't have to do those things.

A double standard only occurs when something is unjustified or morally unfair. Women shaving their arm pits in an attempt to be more desirable to males is a perfect justification for why it is acceptable for women to shave their pits. There is nothing unfair about this and therefore this is not a double standard let alone "a nasty double standard" as the original poster described.

Those are all double standards. Except for growing hair long - that's a double standard for men. (As in women can have any length hair and men are expected to keep it short for the most part). Being attractive to the oppostive sex is a pretty nebulous justification for this double standard to exist - yet it does.

Just because most of us North American women have bought into this double standard doesn't make it less of one. I certainly am complicit in keeping this one alive by shaving, plucking, colouring and putting on makeup. I am also aware that I am engaging in a double standard.

double standard
noun
1. any code or set of principles containing different provisions for one group of people than for another, especially an unwritten code of sexual behavior permitting men more freedom than women. Compare single standard ( def. 1 )
2. Economics . bimetallism.

Could likely make a compelling argument either way. Men expect something that they don't practice themselves.

Dude, this is a woman's issue thread. If you want to debate the meaning of double standard, we can discuss it elsewhere.

Generalizations keep the world going round and round.

Frankly, I never had a problem with women and their hairy armpits...in fact I had a terrible crush on a girl in 9th grade who had hairy armpits...I cant tell you how many times I jerked off thinking about her...

Seriously, you need to find an hfapsg (hairy female armpit support group) forum.

Read the first line- Double standard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"A double standard is the unjust application of different sets of principles for similar situations."

Being attractive to the opposite sex is hardly a "nebulous" justification. Why don't you try to let all your body hair grow out and don't wear any makeup and see the results of what kind of males (if any males) you attract.

It's natural. I have NO idea why NA standards have women mowing the lawn (other than to look like the forbidden prepubescents) trimmed, I can understand.

Wasn't pit hair in place to retain pheromones?

It's pretty easy to say, actually. Attraction is nebulous in general, as there is no standard on what is attractive. Besides that, attraction is a projection of your demands, wants and needs onto someone else regardless of who they are or what they want. That is most definitely unjust.

It is the same reason why there is a double standard for women being called sluts, yet men who sleep around just as much are respected. You can say it is because that is an UNATTRACTIVE quality in women, but that would be RETARDED.

Bingo. Drac wins the prize. The standard of attractiveness for women in our culture is to look younger. Shave the hair, pluck the hair, dye the hair.

I have gotten so used to shaving my pits that I find it hard to leave it - it doesn't suit the deodorant I currently favour for starters. I have so little underarm hair that HB and I are probably the only 2 people who'd notice if I did leave it. It's just a habit now.

I'm part of the hypocrisy/double standard camp, I'm afraid. I don't mind underarm hair at all (I do remember thinking it looked a little odd at first when I went on a German exchange at 15 and found out that particular stereotype was largely true, but I remember later seeing Julia Roberts on the red carpet and not having a clue what the fuss was about) or pubic hair of pretty much any length, but I'm not keen on hair on the legs, and any hair on the top lip is an absolute no-no.

*edit* Oh and the whole 'shaved pussies are for closet paedos and women who want to look 12-years-old' is nonsense.
