Don't shave, trim. It looks more natural on a guy at least and it won't itch. I just use a regular Wahl electric haircutting razor. Any kind of personal grooming device that has attachments for varying the length of the haircut will work well. I like to trim mine about a quarter inch long. It keeps my drier in the summertime because hair holds sweat.

Shaving cream is a must for clean and smooth pits. Don't be afraid to use plenty of cream the first few times. After a few times, your pits will be used to shaving and you can cut back on cream, if you want.

I started shaving under my arms the moment hair appeared there 23 years ago, and have never had problems with itching. I think if you do it every day, you won't have any problems. I just use creamy body wash or soap; no shaving cream needed.

And although you may itch at first a little, just because you're not used to it, any discomfort should probably disappear within a few days. You may want to make sure you're not using a really harsh deoderant, as ir could irritate your skin.

Oh gosh... I really have a thing for long, straight, very dark armpit hair and plenty of it. I have no idea what that's about cos I don't like my guys to be hairy on the rest of their bodies but oh goodness! A friend was on webcam earlier and showed me his pits and I shot my bolt there and then

Guys without pit hair kind of creep me out. It's too femme. Maybe a trim, but really, I'm with JordanJ. Pit hair is sexy on guys. Very masculine.

I don't remember where I read it, but you should be careful of using a mechanical razor like Norelco. I will try to find the info, but I think I remember reading that it can pull and possibly affect the lymph nodes under the arms. I only use dispoable "Gilliette Daisy" razor and regular bath soap. I use the razor twice and throw it away for a new one. Shaving cream irritated.

I do know one thing about an electric razor -- it's probably the reason I went looking for info on them. I had a mole that I could not see clearly before using the electric razor and electric shaver made a mess of it. Took a week to heal properly. The disposable razor skims right over it and never cuts it. (It's small but not small enough for the electric razor!)

I can't find the info. Anyway, just be extremely careful if you are going to use an electric razor.

P.S. At a young age, my circle and I played what one might call, crab lice roulette. I still suffer from ptsd from that summer. Having to tell my mother about this, and having to shave everything, watching her practically boil all our bedding. . . I almost took my vows!

I can't understand why any male would want to shave his armpits. For whatever reason, I never developed armpit hear until I was in my 40's, and even then just thin, short hair. This is despite the fact that the rest of my body is extremely hairy, and has been since high school. People would constantly ask me "Why the hell do you shave your pits?" I would answer that I don't, but I think that they often didn't believe me. I always felt that I was missing something because I had so little armpit hair, and people's reactions tended to confirm this feeling.

In fact, armpit hair serves an important sexual function, and even among women, the practice of shaving is declining. The hair traps the pheromones secreted by axillary glands, and acts as a wick to make these important chemical messengers perfuse the air during sex. For more information on the function of axillary hair, and the history of shaving it, see:

My two cents from the Caribbean. All guys here in Puerto Rico under 30ish shave under their arms. I was pretty surprised to find a machista culture espousing such a practice. Before everyone goes ape-shit, I am also Puerto Rican, this is my culture about which I am speaking.

Anyhoo... I gave in about a month ago. I find that trimming before-hand is a must if you are hairy down there. I prefer Dove bar soap over shaving cream. I use a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo (sounds like a Formula 1 race car, right?) I find that I have to make fewer passes with the blade and barely have to press down with the blade. No irritation. HollyBlue is right about deoderants / antipersperants. They might sting at first. It goes away.

It took a while for me to begin responding to the scent of men once I realized I was gay. I came home from a bar after being hugged by two sexy men and had their scent on me. Drove me nuts and I had to j/o to relieve the tension. For the dirve--I had no idea why I was feeling so horned and then I remembered our bare chested hugs.

Since then, I have abandoned colognes, stopped trimming my pits, and can really appreciate the individual scents of different men. Pit hair (even a little) definitely helps in this regard (circulating the phermones).

I second that motion. Trimming is easier to deal with. No risks of ingrown hairs, that SUCK. (Especially in the pubic area)
