It is. There are absolutely societal privileges that come with being cis and with being straight. I do try to keep an awareness of the fact that even though I support LGBT rights, as a straight cis male I'm also an outsider in that regard. Same is true of women's rights.
And yet you felt you needed to explain the feeling of oppression to a gay man.

You think you're the only minority against whom discrimination occurs? You are offended even when someone tries to be empathetic. Your blinding bias again...it's pathetic.

My black ancestry does not give me direct personal insight into what it's like to be a woman. Nor does it give me insight into what it's like to me gay. Nor does it give me insight into what it's like being transgender.

My own experiences with racial oppression might give me a greater sense of empathy for people who belong to those groups and a greater willingness to listen to and give credit to their own experiences, but it doesn't create some kind of psychic link.

If your being gay grants you direct understanding of what it's like to be black in America, that's cool I guess, but you don't talk like you have that understanding.

He specifically said he "couldn't care less." Which is unfortunate but not at all surprising.

Yeah, though to be fair, at the time he said that he was still operating from a position of cluelessness.

It wasn't "I could care less about black people", more like "I could care less about what Tex has to say because he's always sassing me" :p

If I want to listen to someone who knows about flying an airplane, I wouldn't go look for a plumber.

If I want confirmation of conservative political thought, watch Fox news.

If I want arrogant alt-left bullshit...

ETA: My point being that listening to you about that issue is not at all illogical, assuming one actually wants to learn something.

What I don't understand is why you try to undermine and phoo phoo concerns over ONE affront to integrity by citing other affronts.

We've recognized and discussed the GOP effort to influence and stack the courts on previous occasions. And you sure as HELL have the option to start a thread on what you've linked above, ESPECIALLY if it's of GREATER concern.

Are you suggesting that concern for the one precludes concern for the the other?

What I'M getting from your "it must be nice to be white sometimes" comment is some rather condescending snark aimed at I.S. in particular and, ironically, dismissive of white people in general who express genuine concerns over racial and social injustices, while (and MOST importantly, though it seems to ESCAPE YOU) those who REALLY couldn't "care less" (i.e. GIVE A FUCK), our resident conservatives, so-called "alt-righters," and other supporters of bigoted ideology, APPLAUD your words.

CERTAINLY you don't mean to suggest that all of those white people who are putting themselves and sometimes their lives on the line in direct opposition to white supremacists, separatists, klansmen, militias, and other assorted bigots don't have the RIGHT to be there by virtue of their race!?

REALLY??

Fuck, that's funny.

I'm so white I can sunburn by mid-morning in San Francisco, and that's not at all what I get from the comment.

Blinded by alt-left bias, shows up again and again here.

Please sir, show me where I said I "couldn't give a fuck" about oppressed minorities.

I didn't say you said you couldn't give a fuck about oppressed minorities. I said you couldn't give a fuck." Here's where you said it, though I'm certain your next response will be some fucking I didn't respond "in the context of the question" nonsense.

That's the best you could do?

Actually, both make sense. Honestly, I don't think I agree with removing the statutes, but it's also not something I feel either strongly about or worth fighting over. And no, the POTUS response has not been helpful overall. But I'm not sure anything he said would be.

I was saying - obviously - that I do not (cannot) understand the visceral reaction to these statues (precisely because I am a white male). That's certainly not the same as not giving a fuck.

I find the KKK and their ilk sufficiently distasteful that I don't follow them. Don't even read the news about them 'cause I just don't care.

You are [intentionally] confabulating my dismissal of KKK and their bullshit propaganda with insensitivity to an individual minority. If I thought you were confused, rather than being intentional, I'd feel sorry for you.

And actually, I do feel sorry for you anyway; your argument is pathetic.

But it is also incitement to riot. And for that you should be condemned by responsible men and women of all races.

Sorry for the delay, I had to run say a quick Methodist prayer and then have dinner with my blonde cisgender (a new word for me today), heterosexual wife and 2.1 above-average children.

Eloquent response. Admittedly more accurate than your prior.

Or, maybe I've actually convinced you?

Next, have some work to do (mental or physical activity as a means of earning income; employment) before headed to bed.
