Art Model

Male art models seem to outnumbered by female models in the life drawing scene.
Has anyone ever posed for the art community?
Or would you ever consider doing it if you ever had the opportunity?
Also, check out my drawings.

I’ve model for artist for a few years. A bunch my second and third year at university before branching out into drawing party and strip work. True women dominate the scene in classes. I think it’s because it’s the preference of those doing the hiring. Also women seem to be more reliable. The guys do it a few times as a kick then don’t come back. Also, athletic guys are preferred, in spite of what they say in advertisements. I’m athletic and reliable and became the art department’s go to male model and still was only hired about 1/3 the time of a female model.

I still model for a few select artist, more out of respect for their creativity and friendship, but the money is ten times better doing hen parties and strip work.

I did briefly for drawing classes in college. It was only for a couple of years while I was in school. Made very little money but it was fun. Never considered it beyond doing it for classes.
Yep. No real money in class modeling. Not for typical university art departments. Snack money I called it. I lived close by so told them I could be available for anything which helped. I did a lot of on call work if another model didn’t show up. Also one professor hired me for specific students he thought had promise or a special project. Never was enough to be a livable income, just a little spending cash.

Did it back in my uni days a few times, it's a lot more difficult than most people think.
Keeping still in one position isn't easy, it can bring on cramps and restlessness, the silence is also difficult to appreciate.
Women have always dominated the life drawing scene, there's simply more call for female life art than there is for men.
To do it professionally as a life model you need to be registered (at least here in the UK) with RAM (the register of artists models) unless you're doing a private sitting, RAM ensures its models meet all the criteria for being able to sit, they're not sexual predators, makes sure you're fairly paid etc.

I modelled for art classes as a college student. It was interesting work; I met interesting people.

I had been warned by a male graduate student that my penis may shrivel out of nervousness. I dropped my pants, and, said, "Even if it does, there will be plenty left!" He gulped, and, nodded slowly.

I've worked as an art model, both nude and clothed, for several years. University classes, individual artists and photographers, open sessions, workshops, you name it. It can be fun, rewarding and challenging--but like anything else it can be a bit of a non-stop grind to find steady gigs. The pandemic pretty much put a stop to things, and I'm not sure if I'm going to continue doing it much in the future.

It can definitely be a self-esteem and ego boost, but it can also be tedious and involve a lot of logistical headaches before and after the gigs. Still, ultimately, it's always been a great feeling to sometimes see drawings, paintings or photographs of me hung in galleries or art-spaces. It's an honor to help an artist create their vision.

What I haven't heard is how it helps or hurts a man's love life.
I respect the non sexual nature of nude art, but quite frankly I have no desire to leverage my nudity, nor have it beholden without an objective sexual benefit to come from it.

I was an in-demand model for about 8 years in the NY metro area (CT, NJ, Long Island and all boroughs) - usually between 40-80 hours/month. It took some dedication and it was essential to be reliable as many of the gigs required 60-80 hour poses (holding the same pose for 3-4 hours/day for weeks, usually 5 minute breaks every 25-30 minutes) I stopped when I moved to more rural California but have been thinking about going back into it. No, the money is not great but I really enjoyed working with the artists involved and being part of the creative process. Some photos are in my gallery. If anyone is serious about exploring, send me a message and I will share my 'how to' guide.
