Rugby World Cup: Wallabies dump England out, qualify for quarter-finals

The Wallabies send the hosts packing at the Rugby World Cup with a 33-13 win over England, with Bernard Foley scoring 28 points.

Ungodly mess': British press

11:52am | Beaten up by the Wallabies, the UK media has not held back on a "shambolic" England team.

1443914561547.png

The UK press mourns England's embarrassing loss to Australia in the Rugby World Cup.

The Daily Mail was somewhat less dramatic, but no less scathing.

"Only the worst hosts leave their own party this early," it spat, following an opening paragraph that detailed the "horror" that spread around Twickenham "as England's doomsday scenario unfolded in front of a capacity crowd".

1443915115616.png

Humiliating: The Daily Mail Online on October 4, 2015.

"England's tournament has been an ungodly mess from start to finish. On Saturday night, they were pathetic. They went out with a whimper. If the defeat to Wales last week had been desperately close, this capitulation to Australia was men against boys."

It maintained the rage throughout its report, describing the English team as "naive", "callow" and "clueless", falling apart in the face of a "brutally predictable" defeat.

The Mirror accused England of a "shambolic tournament display" while the Guardian declared simply: "England put to the sword."
