I have my own extrapolations and theories. But I wanna hear from a black woman:

1.Why is there so much friction in the black community, mainly between men and women ?

2.Why is there so much uneasiness between lighter blacks and darker blacks ?

I know that there are several theories already offered from several prominent and/or infamous social scientist, commentators, authors...ect...ect.......but I want to know what everybody thinks themselves. From their own experiences.

I wonder about this myself...why does it still go on? I even see it in my own family...:wtf2:

When will black women stop wearing weaves and be proud of what god blessed them with?

I've seen a couple of weavealicous women but I just can't get over the insecurity and poor hygiene.

Did you see Black in America? Much of this was covered there. But I think that one of the problems between black men and women is the disparity in earning power and the expectation that the man should be the bread winner in a society that does not support that in the Black community .With generations of black women serving as the primary bread winner and many broken promises there is bound to be tension. THink of all of the Baby mamas and daddies. That cant be a good thing. When women have not had a good track record with their men and the men have constantly been the recipient of drama and the bitterness of disappointed expectations it isnt a good environment in which good communication can flourish.
As for the color wars, that comes from the ante bellum period. At one point the free people of color and the black enslaved were seen as two distinctly different groups. In the upper south mulattos were a part of the mix with the first boat of English settlers. Over the years as the mulatto population grew there were laws set up to control the entire population. Thus the one drop rule. Prior to that there were mulattos who at some point slipped over into the white population with all the rights therewith .
In the lower south a different system prevailed with later influxes of African slaves and at a greater degree, the populations remained separate with African slaves treated brutally while the lighter free people of color or products of placage grew prosperous, owned slaves, were highly educated with property. It was most often seen in Lousianna but there were enclaves throught the south. With the backlash of post reconstruction politics, the two formerly separate groups were pooled together under the one drop rule. However they were greatly stratified by that time and those who were educated ( Free blacks) with property were prepared to take leadership roles in the new Negro or colored community. This advantage has trickled down over the years. THough with programs and the pure grit of many darker blacks the situation has been overcome for the vast majority color and lack of education has and to some degree continues to serve as a stumbling block. WIth every wave out of the south and out of the ghetto there will always remain a permanent underclass made up of those unprepared to take advantage of advancement.
In terms of the cosmetics of color. The black commuinity has done a head job on itself. As I said earlier in another post the closer one resembled the majority the less perceived threat. However that only went so far. once it was known of one's ethnicity the one drop rule applied. But within the black community itself hierarchies still survived and colorism prevailed. It was easier for a darker man with status or education to marry a lighter woman than it was for a darker woman regardless of education to marry other than a dark man. The result was a discrimination within race that lives on today in the animosity experienced between black women especially of differing shades.

When the European standard of beauty is no longer an issue then perhaps Black women will no longer feel that they too must have longer hair by hell or high water.
I have been blessed with a head full of hair but some women are not able to grow their hair or their hair is difficult to maintain. So many resort to the use of weaves. It gives them a degree of confidence.

That was a weak response, someone says or tells you something and it's a " golden standard"?

European beauty is just that european! Asian beauty is Asian! AND SO ON. Why don't a lot of black women adhere ( no pun intended) to "black is beautiful" as their "Gold Standard"?

Shoot if I took everything I heard growing up to the heart I would be dead right now.

No ,it isnt weak. When you have black men and men of other persuasions that clearly make their preference known for what you do not possess it engenders all sorts of ingenuity. Dont shoot the messenger.

Not shooting you sweetie. Just saying it's sounds like hypocrisy, the message you passed on. Black is beautiful, other women want what "black'' women have, etc...
"What men want" reasoning is BS!
I'm just saying, but whatever, I guess different strokes for different folks.

Hey,

That is not how I feel but what I have observed. I feel if someone doesnt want me for who I am they can keep stepping. There are also many other black women who are confident in who they are. But in answering your question that is why many women do buy weaves. Also it gives them a versatility in look.

?
I'm confused, I'm fine with what God gave me; I just wish it was easier to manage on a daily basis.

You claim to have dated black women; but have you ever been with one to a salon on a Saturday? A simple press-n-curl can take 2-3 hours and don't even think about a relaxer or curly perm cause that adds another hour. Weaves and braids take 5-8 hours minimum. The beauty of the weave and the braids is that the daily maintenance isn't 60-90 minutes. It's a matter of convenince and efficiency when one needs to get out the door in the morning.

I've seen a couple of weavealicous women but I just can't get over the insecurity and poor hygiene.
Insecurity and poor hygeine? :wtf1: I've never associated either of those things with weaves. If it looks unclean the rest of the woman probably is as well. :yuck: When I have worn weaves in the past I actually found their maintenance to be much easier than my own hair. That is one reason why many black women get weaves.

For number 2)
I studied Vedanta and the Hindu social systems for a while and was struck by the situations over "there" which seem a lot like ours. With with the Untouchables and the Brahmins (there are two other castes, but I'll sideline them). You are born an Untouchable, and there is nothing you can do about it. You're not allowed to look at a Brahman.

And the Brahmins are usually more light skinned than the Untouchables, who are very dark.

Sound familiar? There are strides being made in India for advancement and realizing the old traditions can be broken.

For number 1) Mars and Venus. Men have different expectations than women, and its worse in a branch of humanity where you have a Gangsta subculture...and the men's magazines are labeled "Player"....

I think you can come up with your own verbalizations better than I.
