Ask a Black Girl Anything . . .

Strictly from looking at porn, I get the sense that black men are far more likely to be uncircumcized than white guys? Is that true? And if so, why?

Probably because of cost. If you tend to be on the lower range of the economic ladder you skip a lot of things.

2.Why is there so much uneasiness between lighter blacks and darker blacks ?

Does this not exist in a lot of other societies? As mentioned before in Asia you see this a lot. I've been to many many places in this world and it seems almost universal, the lighter you are the better you are or so goes the perception sadly.

Take a daylight drive through Asian immigrant enclaves like Monterey Park and Irvine, and you’ll see women trying to shield themselves with umbrellas – even for the short dash from a parking lot into a supermarket. While driving, many wear special “UV gloves” – which look like the long gloves worn with ball gowns – to protect their forearms, and don wraparound visors that resemble welder’s masks.

At beauty salons, women huddle around cosmetics counters asking about the latest cleansers and lotions that claim to control melanin production in skin cells, often dropping more than $100 for a set. Beauticians do a brisk business with $65 whitening therapies. Women dab faces with fruit acid, which is supposed to remove the old skin cells that dull the skin, and glop on masks with pearl powder or other ingredients that they believe lighten the skin.

That was a weak response, someone says or tells you something and it's a " golden standard"?

European beauty is just that european! Asian beauty is Asian! AND SO ON. Why don't a lot of black women adhere ( no pun intended) to "black is beautiful" as their "Gold Standard"?

Shoot if I took everything I heard growing up to the heart I would be dead right now.

Yes I've been to a saloon in Jamiaca,Queens.
5-8hrs? Who is doing your hair, Stevie Wonder???
We were out of there in about 3 hours I remember the hair was,
14" and 16" Milky Way 1B Finger roll I think?
I remember 1 girl saying she only washed her hair ONCE a month how f'ing disgusting!
I like a shaved head or very, veryyyyyy short hair on a women
You dated a few Black women so you understand us now?
Foremost, a hairstyle is just that, how someone chooses to style their hair, and not necessarily a marker of insecurity.

However, what Naughty and NJ wrote were spot on. Black women do see and embrace their own beauty, however, it is also difficult to completely escape a social conditioning that upheld women, who almost universally look nothing like us, as the pinnacle of beauty and femininity.

If it were not for John and Eunice Johnson, Gordon Parks, I would have no knowledge of how diverse and extraordinarily beautiful Black is, and noting that the influence of this media is only 30-40 years old, you see that is a meager defense against the onslaught of everything but full lips, nappy hair, and big asses being deemed beautiful.

We, as many other people, have to work against now de facto, but previously de jure as well, racism that changed the way we view ourselves. A type of racism that forced Black women to cover their hair, separated us by color gradation, allowed the era of sambo, aunt jemima, and all that other "negro features are ugly" bullshit; Black people have to fight all of that history to understand their value and it will come in its time, not yours.

Then can start working on the undervaluing of Black women…

Regarding the washing of hair, that is a social thing. In that woman's family or social group, it is acceptable to wash her hair once a month - if it doesn't smell, what difference does it make to you?

As far as time spent in a salon, again NJ is correct. *Sigh*, black salons are notorious for being a several hour or full day process. They hold you hostage by jacking up your hair just enough in the beginning that you can't leave until they finish.

I think weaves are wonderful!!!

How much do they usually cost?
The resourceful woman does her own or has a friend do it and only pays for hair, which can run several hundred dollars. In a salon, $200-300 and up, not including hair.

UUMMMM, THEIR HAIR???? THEIR HAIR IS THE HAIR THAT GROWS OUT OF THEIR OWN SCALPS NOT SOME LITTLE VIETNAMESE GIRLS HEAD.

Understand you?, a woman?, is that a trick question?:dunno::smile:
Do you wear a weave, "Mrs. black is beautiful"?
And washing your hair once a month is gross, it f'ing stinks.
Would you run your hands through your mans hair if he didn't wash for 30 days?
Would you let him rest his head on your chest in bed at night?
Sweat, dirt and other debris, yuck I don't care who it is.

WOOOWWW!! WITH THESE HALF ASS ANSWERS!
:confused::eek::mad::biggrin1::dunno::censored:

I gave a complete answer that was in no part half-assed, perhaps their is an issue with your comprehension?

I do no wear a weave, but I have tried wearing one once as a style. Generally I wear my hair in its naturally curly state, occasionally having it blown out, or flat ironed for a straight style.

Did you smell her hair or are you guessing?
I dated a guy who never "washed" his hair, he cleaned it by rubbing oil on his scalp and rinsing - it never smelled and was always soft. Also, I know for a fact that my grandmother only unbunned and washed her hair once every few weeks because she had long, thick hair and it also never smelled.

Look here ssssiissta IF YOU DONT WASH SOMETHING IT WILL EVENTUALLY STINK!
Yes I smelled her hair it stunk! I also smelled my last ex's hair (excuse me weave) and it stunk (I eventually found out she too washed like every 30 days or so) and she thought it was totally normal, wtf?. Funny how your quick to pull the gun out the holster on me but you, yourself don't wear a weave... HOW IRONIC!
As far as that man you dated, eww f'ing gross. Do you shower and NEVER use soap and a washcloth? Better yet do you shower everyday while using cotton balls only in certain areas?

Maybe we need to change this thread title from " Ask a black girl" to "ASK a black WOMAN"

Yeah, I'm done.

If and when you may get ANGRY.....do you purse your lips...?
Sometimes I do, but more from being miffed than angry. I'm rarely angry so not sure what I do other than curse and maybe throw shit. :biggrin1:
