Yes I have that book too. You can tinker and mess around with the stats to get them to say whatever you want, that is true. But it's also true that you can get some amazingly accurate results from random sampling. You can use stats to lie, just like accounting, but that does not invalidate the entire discipline. What Bush did was not random sampling, since he hand picked the sample rather than randomly selecting it. A flat out lie.

The answer to this is not to disbelieve statistics, they are absolutely necessary for our entire economy and society to function. The answer is to learn as much about it as you can so you can benefit from it, and not be fooled by some fuzzy numbers.

Not to mention, if you are going to college for anything higher than a Bachelors degree, you MUST learn statistics, because you will be using it. No ifs, ands, or buts. That is the discipline that separates the men from the boys in social, scientific, and business fields.

So to make a long story short, and end the tangent and get back on point, the 70% of black children born out of wedlock statistic is accurate.

And that brings me back to my original question to NJ. How would you respond to someone telling you that giving oral sex makes one a 'whore' when the person who is preaching that morally superior bullshit has a 70% chance of being born out of wedlock herself, and a 70% chance of having her own child out of wedlock?

Every stat has a margin of error. No one with a brain is trying to discredit science. At least I'm not. It's obvious that infidelity is very high in teh black community. The point I'm trying to make is that the majority of black parents aren't even married when they have kids. So in that sense, that stat is true.

What I'm questioning is that paradigm that most black children are the product of an already married black man (or woman) having sex with woman that's not his wife.

I wasn't trying to imply anything about black people with that statistic, trying to point out how hypocritical it was for someone to judge someone else as a whore when chances are she's whore in the first place by society's standards, and wondering how one would respond to that....because I hear bullshit like that all the time from people who have no right themselves to judge.

I'd say legit counselor though I don't always like his counseling style. I think he is still a licensed therapist in Texas; but not Califrnia where his show tapes. What he usually does is offer up his opinion based on years of education and experience, then if the idiot/guest in question is willing; he refers them to a licensed therapist in their home town.
