Given that there are more caucasians than black Americans in this country I think you are correct. How those food and beverage items came to be identified with blacks I'm not exactly sure. Maybe because they are inexpensive and therefore most blacks could afford them. To be honest most of what is identified as being black food or soul food is really southern food. :smile:

As it was explained to me:
One thing that all of those foods have in common is "ease of travel and convenience".
When America was segregated, black vacationing families couldn't pull in to any ole hotel, motel or dining facility as expected to be served. What better foods to pack in your cooler and place in the rear of your station wagon? Fried Chicken, mellon and cheap sugary kool aid. I think lots of passers-by and rest stop visiting white folk took notice and "bam" a stereotype was born
