Yes, I've heard something similar to what you wrote. I hear that "my people" are good cooks and that people are so glad when nonna teaches their white daughter in law to cook real Italian food. For some reason, many people don't consider Italians to be white. I get told that all the time. I also hear "You aren't white, you're Italian."

True story: I know a gay couple in which one man is black and has a small penis. His hubby is Italian, or more specifically Sicilian. They used to live in Atlanta and when 'Vinnie' applied for his drivers license he checked off black and had an argument with the clerk behind the counter who insisted he needed to be white as he was in Georgia now and that would just make his life easier.

It is true that Italians have suffered some discrimination in the past. Of course, assimilation has reduced the negative impact of that, and, for the most part, being Italian today holds a positive prejudicial impact with most groups. For that reason, there is really no comparison with the impact it has had on other groups where assimilation is thwarted by unconcealable physical attributes.

Except, of course, when we have to watch "Jersey Shore"....

That show is just bad tv. It is full of bad stereotypes, bad hair, bad fake tans, and mostly bad behavior. :irked: Of course that makes it a sure fire hit. :frown1:

Hmm, nature vs. nurture. I'm not sure. I'm thinking a little of both; but it's probably more learned behavior from media, locker rooms, porn, etc.

Fresh air, kinda knowing my neighbors, the quiet and pastoral beauty of farmland and animals.

2. What is the worst part of living in rural BFE?

I have to drive 17 miles to get to a Starbuck's, Dunkin Donuts, or Macy's. It's over 40 miles to the nearest Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. We have a hospital, but it's not full service. For GOOD medical care I have to go to Atlanta. :irked:
