But why? You're American, who happens to have related Italian ancestry. How does this make you Italian but born in America?

It kinda like saying I've Icelandic parents but I was born in Brazil but i live in Mexico so im Russian.

It's not so, I would be... Brazilian.

I dont get why you would say you're Italian when you're American? Your family origins dont change that.

LOL RP, you're making me think of things I never had to think of before. I don't know. That's how things are in America. Sometimes in grade school, a teacher would say, "Raise your hand if you're French" or "Raise your hand if you're Irish". Then she'd say what nationalities were in the class, and how many of each, and of course some people were mixed, Polish and Italian, or French and Irish. And some would have 4 different nationalities.

What nationality are you? A Rugbypup living in NZ!

Im English, because i was born and lived in England for 29 years, but i hope to one day be a Kiwi citizen, but even that wouldnt make me a Kiwi, I'd still be English. My dads English and his liniage back to 1790 something and my mum, although born in England is of Polish parentage, but she's still English also, not Polish.

I was born in England of Polish/English ancestry, living in New Zealand, this dosent make me Icelandic.

I understand the cultral identification, I do. I understand pride in your acentral past, i do. I understand you grew up in an Italian family and shared Italian traditions, I do. But you are an American.

Really, and im not being rude here, it;s kinda like saying because you eat pasta your Italian.

I dont understand the American focus on cultral or ancestral origins, surly you are all just Americans.

America is a melting pot, and people from all different countries came here to settle, unlike other countries in the world. In major cities there are areas where Italians, Jews, Greeks, Irish and other nationalities settled. It's still like that today to a certain extent.

In the city where my parents grew up, there were blocks of Italians, other blocks of French, Irish, Polish, and just about every nationality. People who came from those countries wanted to be around like people. They would refer to certain areas of the the city as the French section or the Irish section.

Yes, we are all Americans, but for some reason we like to differentiate ourselves by our ancestry. I never really thought of it like that having always lived here, but you bring up an interesting point, RP.

As such a young nation, i always wonder why you dont celebrate your own culture more and let go of ancestral influences.

They enrich us only so much before they devide and seperate us.

Judaism is NOT a nationality!

I know. It's a religion. Sorry about that. I meant Jewish people.

I like you Italian1... (wag, wag, wag)

I wont growl at you if you wanna rub my tummy fur, lol

I like dogs as long as they're not biters. I'll rub your tummy, you can give me your paw, and then I'll give you a treat. :biggrin1:

Well, we do have all American things like hot dogs, Disney World, and baseball. I would suspect that in a few hundred years very little tradition from the old countries will be evident. It's already apparent in some respect. As my older relatives passed away, so did the Italian language they spoke; none of us speak it fluently and some, like myself, only know a few words here and there. You'll have to come to the States someday and check us out.

Because there is no "American" culture to celebrate. It is all borrowed and glommed together from the cultures of immigrants. Technically, I guess you could say we should follow the traditions of the Native Americans; however the Pilgrims ruined that by labeling them as wild heathens.

It seems that ever guy I've seriously considered to date is Italian, you think theres a secret, hidden relationship down deep enough just for the two of us?
*Italian men are HHOOTT*

Maybe you live in a primarily Italian area.

Italian men are at the top of my list ... why are Italian men so hot? what's a rugby pup?

Why are they at the top of your list? Another poster wanted to know why some of them are "Guido's". Do you like "Guido's"? :biggrin1:

The Native Americans are big on casinos, which I frequent from time to time.

Esperi De Corti. Not one drop of inherited Native American blood in him.

By the same token, did you know that Marlon brando actually was part native american and not at all italian?

I always thought that he was Italian, but my father said he wasn't. A lot of Italian names end in vowels so I had always assumed that. I never heard that he was part native American. Where did you read that?

Brando's son, Christian, died of pneumonia a few weeks ago. He was the one who shot his sister's lover, and then his sister killed herself. And when Robert Blake's wife was murdered, Blake said Christian Brando did it.

Hey Italian, can I ask how hung you are? Is it true that most Italians are hung above average? I haven't met any Italian guy less than 8" and most have been over 9".
