Atlanta's Transit System Changes 'Yellow Line' to 'Gold' After Asian Outrage

Uhmm, who still calls Asian people yellow? Seriously, even Archie Bunker moved on to oriental in the 1970's. Somebody needs to dial their righteous indignation back a notch. The Atlanta Asian community was up in arms about the MARTA having a 'yellow' line.

Now I know what y'all are thinking, "Yellow" is not an ethnicity. You are correct; butI live in the south. Here, yellow is apparently an ethnicity.  In MARTA's defense they just thought they would use primary and secondary colors to make the map easy to understand. Kinda like every other major city with a subway line.

I wouldn't be surprised if these people thought that 'Yellow Fever" came from eating bad Wonton Soup.

Well, OK, another un-PC example (popular usage only, not official):

In San Francisco, the 30 Stockton, a public bus route which goes through Chinatown (and on to elsewhere in the city) is called "the Dirty Stockton" because of debris often deposited on the bus floors, etc. but more infamously, it's nick-named "The Orient Express" because of the preponderance of Asians riding it, talking loudly in Chinese, and with lots of Chinese women carrying several pink/red plastic shopping bags full of produce and other foods, rudely jostling at the bus door to push aside others and get on board first. I worked a block away, and it's true.

Change it to the "gold" line and all sorts of strange will break out among the passengers after the gay bars let out. Can't think of a better place to pee in my instant date's mouth.

Out of interest, what other line colours do they have? Could anyone be offended by them?

and thats what happens when the government doesn't want to lose votes, they make the tax payers pay for stupid and unjustified changes rather then having the balls to stand up for what 99% of people have no problem with.

Next up the Queen of England is offeneded by the Blue Line. I never thought of Asians as yellow. I guess what they are doing is claiming this color as a sterotype that will now be embraced in that area.

I agree that this is WAY over the top; but the background on this is that the 'yellow' line's far northeast side stops include the communities of Doraville and Chamblee: parts of the city with very heavy Korean and Vietnamese populations. It is been a local 'joke' since MARTA extended the yellow line to that part of town.

The yellow/gold does run through Midtown, ATL's yuppie gayborhood, so I guess this would be a win for W/S enthusiasts, as Midlife pointed out =)
