I'm not entirely sure to be honest, MLB, but here in Oz they're called cyclones.
Americans call them Hurricanes...I got a feeling that nations around the Pacific Rim call them Typhoons but I'm guessing.
Three different names for the same weather pattern but as you see each nation becomes rater possessive of their particular name.
You all would get riled if I said Cyclone Katrina and so it's always good to observe a nations little eccentricities.

For those of you Aussies who haven't heard, Pastor Daniel Nalliah says:

"It is very sad that this dark chapter in Australia’s history is led by an atheist Prime Minister in Julia Gillard and an openly homosexual Greens leader, both who have no regard for God nor prayer. Now we have a new crisis brewing in the seas of Australia with Cyclone Bianca in WA just passing through, and Cyclone Yasi in QLD. How many more disasters will it take before our nation, starting from the Prime Minister, would fall on our knees and ask for God’s protection and turn back to Him?" - He also blames Australia's recent wildfires on abortion and claims to have ended a 2007 drought through the power of his prayers.

If you feel the need to thank him for his insight, you can find more information here: 'Cyclone no time for atheist PM' | National News | Breaking National News in Australia | Central Telegraph

Hope you are all doing well, despite being wet and soggy.

Goddess, I can't even begin to articulate the depths of my loathing for these opportunistic, bible thumping, shirt lifting, god bothers who use a nations suffering to push their agenda.

Aussie seemed to be riding on a crest,(wont say wave) with plenty of Wealth in reserves prior to these latest major natural disasters

I have often dreamed on behalf of the droughty Southern States, why not run a major Water pipeline down the entire Centre of the Continent (who cares what amount of Billions of $ it would cost) mortgage the country its only young, minerals galore to pay for it all.
Capture the Annual Big Wet, and perhaps the country and people would flourish even more, eventually
Pipe Dream, ha

Yes I'm fine. At the beginning of every Monsoon I stock up on 6 weeks worth the supplies eg: tinned food, bottled water, candles, batteries, duct tape and make sure all my gas bottles (the small portable types that you take camping) are refurbished with new gaskets and O rings and refilled.
I use 6 weeks as my measure because Hurricane Katrina and then Cyclone Larry taught us that it can take up to 6 weeks for some semblance of normalcy to be restored to essential services.
Planning to be self sufficient helps takes a lot of pressure off emergency service workers and helps them to direct resources to those who need it more.

Fuck!
A new cyclone cell is developing off Fiji. Thing is that not all computer models agree that it will track well south of the Queensland coast.
The SCI (Southern Oscillation Index) is still showing abnormally high readings so it really isn't looking good at the moment regardless of the soft soaping from the media.

May I remind people that this new cell is developing in almost the exact same place that Cyclone Yasi did.

You could hop on a plane and head six hours north by north west.

Glad you are good Sweetheart and that everyone has survived this latest peril.

Is this freak weather or the new reality?

Unfortunately, I`m afraid this is the new reality, it`s happening all over the world. I can`t remeber last ime Serbia has had such floods as in the past two spring/fall seasons. I think it`s just the nature`s way of finding a new balance. The winters here are getting really cold, we didn`t have this much snow in decades...Really messed up...

This season has been a combination of La Nina and abnormally high SOI but really we are stuck with this weather until our Autumn.
This is traditionally when our weather patterns either correct or continue.
And so we have a wait to see if we are going to snap back to a El Nino or stay in a La Nina.
<sigh>
The common (scientific ) consensus is that we will be staying in this La Nina weather pattern.

As to whether this is the new reality...time will tell..in the mean time expect and plan for the worse and be surprised when it doesn't pan out that way.

Please keep us updated. This is concerning coming so soon after Yasi.
