I like the 'smile.' I just wish I knew how you make a gif like that.

I like the smile, too, but the third one is so virtuosic that I'd miss it if you took it down.

I vote for the smile. If not the smile, then the glowing eyes.

The Smile and Channels of Life are my absolute favorites. Any one of those is fine with me.

However, if I HAD to choose one, I'd say Channels of Life. The more pictures of you the better.

    Definitely go for the smile.

The glowing eyes of the first picture make you looked possessed, and the third picture doesn't quite represent your amiable persona as it appears on the posts. That's why I recommend the smile because it complements you the most.

    What you'll need:

    • A webcam, digital camera, or digital camcorder
    • Adobe ImageReady 7.0 or better
    • Adobe Photoshop (optional)
    • Windows movie maker or other movie file converter software (may be optional)
    • About 2 hours of free time (allow more time if you are computer illiterate, or cant read)
    Instructions:

First Record a snip of footage of yourself using Your source of media output. Digital camcorder is most recomended as I can provide plenty of time to goof off and the best clarity. A little side note, most digital cameras can record movies depending on memory stick space or space on camera, webcams may not always be able to record, but use the computer as storage providing ample storage space (excetions to digital cam. include use of USB, ect.)

Next, If your clip is already in a .avi or .mov file skip to the next step. Using Windows movie maker or another movie making/converter convert your .mpeg or .wmv to an .avi file or .mov file (.mov prefered but not nesesary).

Next, using Adobe Ilustrator open the .avi or .mov file. If the file is a lengthy movie, now is your first chance to make a small edit and select no more than a good ten seconds. Once in the next screen your animation will be ready to be edited to fit avitar standards, but first go through your frames to make sure that everything looks fine. It's not recomended but eache frame is related to a layer which is it's own individual picture. If needed small tidbits such as hair eye or teeth color can be Photoshopped but only one frame at a time, but in quality loss it will most likely be a waste of time (hence the not recomended part).

Step four. With your vid clip parsed into frames, it's time to cut frames, and quality as the avitar must not be any larger that 48.8 kb (trust me on this) or 100x100 pixels. Knowing this we will first go to the Image menu and select"Image size..." there you will take the largest pixel size and change it to 100, the other will automaticaly resize to fit if still selested to do so as default. Aslo note at this point that if you have more than 80 frames you will be losing a lot of quality later on with your avitar, the less frames the more quality you may keep overall.

Step five. On your alost new avitar select the "optimized" tab next to the "original" tab. Not much will look different but you need this screen up to see how the effects of the lowered quality will look on in actual viewing.

Step six. To the right should be a mini tool box with an "Optimize" tab selected. Pay no attention to the first drop down menu you see. Instead make sure the three on the left say in this order descending say "GIF" "Custom" and "Diffusion".

Step seven. Here it get's tricky. Note: you may need to save multiple files, and save repeatedly. Under your future avitar should be three small stat windows, one for current image size (likely to be 100%) , and two image information windows. You will need to pay attention to the image information window to the farthest right. You will try to get it to say 48.8 kb (or less)/(some number) GIF. Unfrotunately it might not even be a Kb it may be mb, wich is too high. Your best bet is to reduce colors first, as they take the most space. I suggest either 16 or 8 colors, you will most likely be using 8 colors anyway but every persons avitar will be different to work with. Work with dither and lossy to also lower the size of your avitar (using these will cause your avitar to become more grainy and unrecognizable, but lowers the size of the file slightly)

Final step(s). Go to the menu "file" an choose "Save Optimized as..." make certain that in the "Save as type" it says "Image only (*.gif). Double check wherever you save the gif that the size is under 48.8 kb, and that it has the quality that you want if not, repeat step seven trying to tweak the quality untill you get it to fit. Always save anew using the "Save Optimized as..." option givig a new name, that way you can compare quality and file size. When you finally get your avitar to look right upload it to LPSG, and delete the rest. If you ever need help my I.M. is always open from 8:00 p.m untill 10:00 P.Mm. Pacific time for your convieniece.
