I reckon that some of the cartoon avatars chosen by people really capture their personalities, and maybe these people would rather convey this information, which in a way is far more revealing than any body/face picture.
I go through different moods and at the moment have a body-shot posted, don't think I'll ever post a head-shot, but as they say never say never...

yeah, this is crazy that people don't understand what an avatar is. Its not suppose to be a real picture of yourself otherwise it would say put your picture here not select an avatar. Someone PM'd me once telling me how handsome I was by the avatar in my profile when its actually Joe Flanigan (John Shepard Stargate Atlantis character). Then I got a nasty PM back about being deceitful and dishonest, How f'n lame can you get. SwimmingLad, please leave you avatar alone it couldn't be any easier to look at.
