Bike2swim: Survey's that are self-measuring generally show about 5" in girth (or slightly more), while survey's that are taken by the surveyors give less: usually about 4.5 to 4.75". So actually 5" would be slightly above average. Another point to consider is that the measurement is usually taken at the widest point, be it head, central shaft or base.
gtgrad2002: I would have to agree with Geo. Most I've seen in lockerrooms looked smaller than that. Also, I know that the Kinsey report was flawed, but it listed the erect girth at a shade below four. Interesting how all these numbers get thrown out by scientists.
