Sorry, unfortunatly it's not an invitation but I'd like to host some memorable parties at my place soon so I'm looking for some tips.

Please describe what happened at the best party you've been to.

Have you hosted a party that everyone remembers? what did you do that was so special

What are the best fancy dress themes for a lively party?

Any other tips and suggestions are welcome

Surely the best fancy dress theme would be "Clothing Optional".

I have found that fancy dress parties tend to make most people put on their fancy dress manners and they tend to act more formal and reserved. The best parties really are all about getting the right mix of people who are all comfortable together. Having enough to eat and drink is key to keeping a party rolling. I personally prefer and outdoor fete if the weather permits. I pick a theme that tried and true for me "Hawaiian Luau!
The best party I ever gave the police were called in to intervene and they ended coming back to party when their shift was over. People are still talking about that one!
Whatever you decide the trick to enjoying your party is careful planning and preparation so you can have fun too.

One of the best parties I went to we all sat around and smoked hookah while watching horror films.

I think it's all about the people there. The right people will make or take with them their own atmosphere.

Get a decent cocktail barman and a really good DJ and rent someone else's house, that's always worked for me. Decor, themed rooms and different music or atmospheres in different parts of the party is good too to give everyone the space to feel comfortable. Food is important if you want people to feel properly hosted but in my opinion your better off hiring a good caterer and not putting yourself to any trouble.

Themes rather than fancy dress tend to work better.
