I am with dolfette on this one. It is a very intimate thing to be called an infant when you are grown. Unless you meant that gallant subby little brown-nosing pig.
I call men and women babe although I'm more likely to use honey. I'm very out-going and I like to connect with people. I've never had anyone object. (I guess I should also say I don't use it completely indiscriminately.)
By the way, crayon, in your case it's a more literal use.
