It’s against the rules to bump a thread more than 5 years old. From the rules:

  1. Excessive Bumping (5 points) – when done within 24 hours of a thread being active is considered unnecessary.
    • Necrobumping – if a thread is more than 5 years old, do not bump it. Start a new thread.

could I get a clarification,
what constitutes bumping?

I understood that as something deliberate.
Purposefully posting for the sole objective of
raising/maintaining the public profile of a thread.
Typically not contributing anything
significant to the thread.

What if the poster actually adds something genuine
and/or relevant to a long inactive thread?
Does that still constitute bumping?

Pretty much. If the thread is 5 years and older, just start a new thread. One problem with old threads, is that they contain so many serious rule violations (incest, underage content, etc) that it can take hours to clean them up. Just let them die. Start a new thread with new perspectives.

So far, these old threads are bumped without meaningful content. Sometimes the new post answers a question asked by a member long gone from the site. Banned, dead accounts. Enjoy reading the old threads, but start a new one if you have something meaningful to say.

We’ve probably all been caught posting a response to a thread, only to realize, after hitting Post Reply, that it was some old post. One of the nice things about being a gold member is that you get 15(or is it 20) minutes to edit or delete your post. Done that a couple times.

BTW, I only post these back from the dead here for entertainment.
